99% of packed lunches are proven to be less healthy than school dinners..

and 36.1 statistics are made up.

young kids need more than anything carbs, they tear around and need the energy. as some have noted, theres a significant problem with school meals not being eaten, so jonny goes hungry. the worst packed lunch is better than that. and many of us grew up with pack lunches, how much harm did that do us?

We've stopped our six year old using her free school meals because she wasn't eating them properly (and certainly wasn't being made to eat the bits of it that are supposed to be good for you). Now she goes to school with a healthy packed lunch full of stuff she likes and a (usually) healthy hot dinner in the evening. It'd be much more sensible to scrap universal free meals and increase child benefit so more people could afford to buy decent food for their kids.

And that's how children learn that they are entitled to be awkward. "I don't want to ..." becomes their motto.

My son (6) has almost the same (through choice) every day

Chicken breast sandwich
Cucumber sticks
2 small tomatoes
Sticks of red and yellow peppers

5 strawberries

Half a dozen small rice cakes

A bottle of water

This isn't forced as he is allowed to eat sweets, but this is what he likes, we're very lucky
