Preston Park Doctors advice needed

This will probably sink like a stone (and rightly so) but I'm about to register for a doctor nearer to where I live and wondered whether any other NSCers use either the Stanford or Beaconsfield doctors surgeries, both of which are in the same new-ish building on the London road which faces the park itself. Otherwise I'll just pick one at random and hope they don't kill me by mistake or anything like that. Cheers.

Ok Stanford and Beconsfield are just before the Travel Lodge and Lovers Walk they are quite well signposted. If you are walking driving towards the seafront it is the second of the NHS buildings. We use Stanford very nice! Dr Bartlett top man.

Yes, thanks for that. Both the Beaconsfield and Stanford surgery are in that same building though; I was wondering if there was anything much to choose between either of them.

Not really they are pretty much the same but split due to size of catchment area. I am pretty sure when my missus was pregnant and her usual midwife wasn't available she was offered an alternate one in Beaconsfield

I used to be registered there until I moved. Very good surgery ( I was with Stanford ). They've got a wide range of services and it's easy to get an appointment. Parking is a bit gash and despite what HBB says, Dr Bartlett was the only one in the practise that I always made sure I didn't see after a few bad experiences.

Yes, I'm with Stanford Avenue. I guess they're ok but I've got nothing really to compare them with. Unlike Westdene Seagull I found Dr Bartlett ok, maybe helped by the fact that my wife knows him from years back.

OK, cheers - thanks for your advice. How bad are we talking: an arrogant bedside manner? Or "touch-and-cough for a sore throat" really bad?

Nothing dodgy !!!! Bad bedside manner with a couldn't care less attitude. As with every service though there will be different experiences.

Not sure if she's still there and can't remember her surname but Dr Andrea is worth visiting - likeswearing short skirts

I'd recommend signing up to the surgey purely for the ease of getting an appointment unlike many surgeries. Obviously they still have the compulsory "tough" receptionists

IS THE CORRECT ANSWER.

Believes that most illnesses can be sorted out by correct breathing.

I know the staff at both of the surgeries that have moved into 179 Preston Road were pretty dead chuffed with the facilities that they found there when the move was made.

I have no idea about the quality of the quacks, but the place seems to be very well run in terms of getting appointments when you want and that sort of thing.

How do I know this? Through running a transport service on behalf of the two surgeries, aimed at older people who found the move to the new location a bit inconvenient. Sadly the funding for the service has now dried up.

I'm not surprised as the surgery at Stanford Avenue was just a house, the Preston Road place is much better.

However it is a cow to get to from Fiveways. When I was having back problems I could stagger over the road to the old surgery but the new one was too far, Because parking's so bad if my wife couldn't take me I used to have to go there and back by taxi as there's no buses. Not cheap. Pity I didn't know about your transport service.

Stanford surgery NSCer here. Not a great attendee, as in once since it opened with a giant swollen knee, but some of the good and great things about it it is a) you can call up Friday for a Saturday morning appointment even though they dont really advertise Saturday opening b) you can drop a stamped sae stapled to your repeat asthma prescription in on the weekend and postie delivers it in the, er, post, by about Wednesday. Qualla NHS service, has to be said. Go Stanford!

Oh, and its not on London Road, its on Preston Road. Obviously.

Don't use Stanford , I was there for 30 + years, I could bore you senseless with things they did wrong but I'd probably get sued. Much better since I moved out to the 'burbs. All I can remember about Beaconsfield is them making the Mrs cry
