It appears that the Premier League could well discuss/decide to open up further ways in which to qualify for the Champions Lge. One idea is to make what now is 4th spot open to teams as far down as 7th and those teams would play-off against each other or knock-out until one team wins that 4th spot. Such a plan could be in place in three years. :wrong::wave:

Excellent idea, adds a bit of drama and breaks up the tedious normality of the top 4. Obviously, if a team like Fulham (who came 7th last season) won the play-off and got themselves into the Champions League, then that would be a bit daft but it's a thoroughly good idea considering how good teams like Man City, Tottenham and Aston Villa are now. We have plenty of teams capable of making the play-offs thoroughly superb. And it would have to mean the Prem finishing earlier, which would mean more midweek games, which I'm in favour of.

As a fan of a lower league club, it's easy for me to say it, but I think this is a great idea and I'm all in favour of it. The final at Wembley would be HUGE. :clap2:

Since the Champions League doesn't matter a damn to 88 of the 92 clubs, and only leads the four entrants to moan about fixture congestion and field weakened teams in other competitions more relevant to our domestic game, the real question is,who really gives two hoots about it.(Apart from Sky,of course.)

Champs League is always MUCH better at the knockout stages, and football in general is better with straight knockout in my opinion. There's nothing quite like the excitement of being 1-0 down in a game you can't lose, otherwise you're out of the competition.

I wonder if Liverpool had anything to do with this..

Yes, they said no to it. As did Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea.

So you could come SEVENTH and be in the CHAMPIONS league??? It's bad enough that you can come fourth and be in, let alone 7th.

Champions League should be the for the champions of each country only if they're going to call it that.

Got a ring to it don't you think?

Bit like coming 6th or 7th and still getting promoted. It would make things a bit more interesting but odd are the same 4 teams will still make it through and for seasons like this one it would actually give liverpool the back door they are going to need to qualify
