Were the fans of mid table teams saying the same the year we came up? The promoted teams have earned the right to give the big time a shot....how they deal with it is a different matter, but we shouldn't be elitist
Doubt it. There were 20 competitive teams back then. Now there isn't.

Reaching the level where you can play a competitive game against top teams in England is getting more expensive and its looking increasingly clear that England doesn't have 20 teams (optimally it should be around 30 to have some more oompf in the promoted teams) that can compete in the same division as the top 15 or so PL teams.

As things are developing, in a few years every newcomer will be relegated immediately. The way to change this is to make Championship stronger through having more mid-size clubs there (through fewer PL teams) while dividing the PL TV money on fewer teams so that the newcomers have a good chance of buying a super team like all the established ones.

I never wanted it reduced to 20 in the first place. Never wanted the 'Premiership' and was quite happy with Division one thanks. Some of the meaning of football did eke away then - and I for one could never foresee us ever getting back into a reduced top division.
In the final season with 42 games per team, Leicester picked up 29 points and Ipswich 27... from 42 f***ing games.

Maybe there's some sort of football romance in that but if you want to have the best league in the world, you can't have that sort of dross around.

Last season there were a bunch of teams that by February could say they wouldn't reach Europe and also wouldn't get relegated. Fair chance that will be the case for 6-7 teams this season as well. If this keeps happening every season, people will get fed up with it.

VAR still taking ages to decide Calvert-Lewin was onside. What happened to that promise that we were getting Automated offside decisions like in the Euros/World Cup?

It happens in most leagues year in and year out.

Is it compulsory for Everton to concede three goals in every game?

Who's their keeper? He must be world class because Lee Carsley's watching on at Villa Park. Oh, hang on, no it's Ollie Watkins, the man who won us a European Championship semi-final. Something Carsley can only dream of......:glare:
