Forgive me for not trawling through 7 pages of replies Leon, but why do you actually give a shit what us Albion supporters think of you now? Have you had some kind of religious experience or something??

I think without a proven striker to play alongside Murray any hope of a play-off ending season will come to nothing and we will end up mid-table ...
We've lost out top scorer from last season and as yet not replaced him

Remind me exactly how many goals Forster scored in the second half of the season when we had a really good run of form. I think 2 or 3 is close enough.

1. Pre season friendlies don't matter. All about team building, match practice, new formations?
2. Pre season friendlies do matter. Building team confidence, momentum & new formations?
3. The results like 2009 have been very poor. Like last year this would infer a poor start to the football season proper?
4. However, on paper our team is better than last year?
5. Short of a good goal scorer. Holroyd still hasn't scored a goal at any level in the last 10 months & Murray is out for the first two league games.
6. Squad is not strong in depth. Need more quality signings across the pitch to cover for suspensions, injuries etc
7. Poyet & Taricco sign extended contracts :)
8. We have brilliant fans who watch the club in all corners of the world (well Europe)
9. Discipline is still an issue
10. That I will save a few quid & not pop down to the bookies yet, to put any money on the Albion getting promoted

That some people read too much into meaningless games

I was trying to be serious.

Lol! I would say Hart has more chance than Baz of playing up front TBH... and that, my friend, is why we need to sign a striker...

Success AND Failure. According to you, it's this...

The original question was asking what YOU considered failure would be, not what Tony Bloom considered failure to be. By saying you think Tony Bloom's opinion is more important, it appears to be over-riding your opinion.

To answer your quesion - in this context, I personally don't give a toss what Tony Bloom's opinion of success is.

What a ridiculous comment your last sentence is... TB's opinion is THE most important one of all in this context, and he has clearly stated he wants promotion...

Yes, we do need to sign a striker. I think everyone accepts that.
But if we havn't signed someone in time for the Swindon game, I can't see Gus putting OGH up front. He'd more likely play Barnes on his own with five in midfield IMO.

Which is what we did against the Portuguese team on Saturday, and we weren't very good.

From the two tour games we looked pretty good with Murray, Kish and Greer starting and very average when they didn't. As these were the two most competitive pre season games so far, they are probably the best guide we have to the state of the team, so I'm not going to expect too much from the first 2 matches and we will improve when Murray and Greer are back.

So the pre-season friendlies over & just 7 days to the real action.

What have I learnt?

The team looks solid, fitter & with a couple of decent acquisitions should be able to compete in the top half of the table. Our strike force remains weak & when Holroyd plays, very weak. I'll keep my betting money in my pocket for now.

Hopefully we will be able to hold out for a draw at Swindon or grab a sneaky 1-0 win.

One thing...
Our strike force is not clinical enough, and we desperately need to strengthen. Not a squad player (striker) but one that should be first choice if we are going to play 4-5-1/4-3-3

Bounced as there are some what seems ridiculous comments here not much of this now we are top of the league

Wow the summer seems a long time ago!!!

What have we learnt?
Pre season friendlies do mean little in terms of results.

2009/2010 pre season friendly results: poor; league results early season poor.

2010/2011 poor & excellent

In Gus we trust.
