I guess they meant "survived the drop" meaning we nearly went in to the conference. In general, a nice report, they got most of it accurate

Weird article all round. If you were going to this sort of reflective piece, choose the most recent two (or three) games in the same competition, the FA Cup ties in the 80s (not even mentioned, both of which we won obviously).

Strange sign-off too...

As the two sides lock horns amid the plush surroundings of the new all-seater stadium, it is safe to say fans of both side have endured the emotive and at times cruel and unforgiving nature of the beautiful game.

All things may be relative, but a few Geordies grizzling about Keegan's departure aside, I can't really say I readily recall Newcastle United's hardships.
