Such a shame if Murray goes, as some say.

With NO transfer or signing on fee, surely Bloom/Poyet can give give the 27 year old a fantastic contract (probably his last big contract in football, so I don't blame him on wanting to secure his financial future). Otherwise gamble cash on fees and wages on someone un-tried.

He was nomadic before he joined us, so he must love the place.

Murray's part of heart of this great team who can make it at Championship Level (Murray, Bennett, Bridcutt, El-Abd, Greer, Painter, Dicker, Noone, LuaLua?, Barnes, Calderon) ... supplemented by some quality acquisitions.

Rugrat. Spot on about Calderon.
Has been fantastic over last 16 months, but lately teams have worked out his defensive frailties.
But definitely keep him. Whole defensive unit will be better when an additional classy/hard centre-half joins, and goodbye Elphick/Brezovan.

Number one signing must be Murray. Over last 2 years, in winning and losing sides .... that guy stands out as class in so many ways.

Gus - please say goodbye to Wood. He just hasn't got it.

ure right wood is shit sorry wood but fcuk off back to the premiership

To me, that team could easily compete in the Championship. Just look at Milwalls side on paper, they were play off contenders until the last couple of weeks, and i'd say there's more quality in our side. I can't see Murray staying, and if he does leave I feel we need 2 good quality strikers to come in, as well as a central midfielder and some better quality competition for the back four. The difficulty will be bringing in that striker, as we will struggle to bring a striker of real quality if we do as believed have a wage cap (not advocating thats a bad thing).

Foolg.
Results against Pompey and Watford prove you right to an extent, but we need to cover for injuries, and say a 55 game season.
Sandaza, Kishichev, Wood, Elphick etc covered at League One level, but hopefully it's goodbye to them (Kishichev not because of quality, but age).

Marlborough
Out: Sandaza, Poke, Batti, Baz, Brezovan, Elphick, OGH, Holroyd, Tunnicliffe, Kishishev (depending on whether he fancies another season)
In: RB Cover (Calde is more than good enough to cope at Championship level, a few dodgy games doesn't change that), CB cover, RM cover, new number 1, 2/3 new strikers (depending on whether Murray stays or goes) and maybe a CM in the Peter Leven mould ie playmaker and penalty taker

Would like to see:

New GK
Calderon
Greer
El-Abd
Painter
Bennett
Bridcutt
Dicker/New CM
Lua-Lua
Murray/New Striker
New Striker
Subs: Barnes, Noone, New CB, Navarro, New RB, Ankergren, New RM cover

With Caskey, Agdestein, Kasim etc pushing for first team action.

Oh I'm sure it would keep us up, but getting OUT that league which Bloom claims is the target is going to require a much higher turnover.

No mention of Dunk in this thread?

Gus has said he thinks he can play at higher levels so you'd think he'll be cover for Greer/El Abd or work his way into first XI calculations.

Unless there's an injury/suspension crisis which means he HAS to get a longish run in the team, I don't see Dunky getting past Greer and El-Abd consistently next season. He'll be there on the fringes again because he's a good player but he's still a bit raw. I think Poyet will want to bring in another CB but unless he can spend half a million quid doing so, he's either going to have to bring in a veteran most likely out of contract player, or loan in a youngster from a Premier League side.

As for other positions, I think GK would be top priority for me. Then probably add a forward, a central midfield player, another wideman and again, a centre back.

I can see Gus and Co looking carefully at the players who are available on a free. Better to spend the money on wages than inflated transfer fees. When you tink that the likes of Kish and Bridcott cost nothing in transfers I am sure that we'll find similar of higher quality. The fact that we now have a decent stadium plus long term ambitions has to be a great attraction to players.

I'm not convinced Calderon will be 1st choice by the end of next season. Has he ever played at the level we are going to? I'd suggest his recent defensive frailties won't have gone unnoticed, even if he is also a latin favourite of Tanno and Gus and I think we'll see a quality RB signed as competition.

Next season the style of play will be alot different than this and will depend on the type of new players Gus can get in. He knows that alot of fans will expect too much and knows that the club must build a solid squad. We will not be the only club looking to get better players in, many will be offering alot more money than we can afford.

Agree with all of that.

I think it's important to remember that this was Poyets first full season in charge and would imagine many other managers were watching to see how he did. The fact that we've been promoted and had the best part of a full squad available for most of the season, barring the broken leg of Lua Lua would further suggest that the backroom staff know what they are doing. This would make me think that the whole package is a helluva lot more attractive to loaning/signing a better quality player for next year. I could be wrong but just have a feeling!

Hither (sometimes Thither)
The Calderon/Bennett combo has been mostly immaculate. The debonair, floppy-haired one charges forward and scores an amazing 8 goals. Bennett, with his naturally hardworking personality, covers if Calde flies off. A couple of mishaps which show a possible lack of concentration by el floppio at the end of an exhausting season don't suddenly make him a bad player. He is utter quality. Perhaps Gus will say in the higher league to curb his attacking enthusiasm just a little. Who knows. He is good enough though without any doubt.

I rate Murray highly and think he has been great this season but at Championship level he is untried too.
