Leo Ulloa scores the third goal to finish off Palace
ALBION boss Gus Poyet has hailed Leo Ulloa as “different class” after his derby day double destroyed Crystal Palace.
Two more goals for the Argentinian target man and a David free-kick saw off Palace 3-0 in front of a record 28,000 plus crowd at The Amex to re-ignite the Seagulls’ Championship promotion challenge ahead of the international break.
Ulloa has now notched eight goals in 11 appearances, including five in the last two home games, to confirm his reputation as the long-sought successor to Glenn Murray, who had a quiet match for visitors Palace.
Poyet said: “Can you imagine if he had been here in August? What a difference! He is that kind of centre forward we missed for a year-and-a-half after we lost Glenn Murray, the one we were looking for everywhere and couldn’t get.
“When a game is like that you need somebody to stand up and finish and that is how he has been. He is different class and we knew it and he is paying the price.
“If you see how he is now he is completely dead. If there is someone who deserves these two weeks off it’s Leo.
“I don’t want to say too much, because I don’t want to lose him, but he’s very good. He has got a right and left foot, he can jump, he can hold, he can dribble. He moves in the box very well and is difficult to mark.”
Albion are only outside the play-off zone on goal difference after bouncing back from three successive away games without a win. They are also just a point behind fifth-placed Nottingham Forest, who they visit on Saturday week. Poyet said: “It makes us finish the season with something really achieavable. Now it’s there to go and grab it and I am sure the players feel the same. It’s going to be an interesting, exciting end of the season.”
The Seagulls will check today on a late back injury sustained by Tomasz Kuszczak which could force the keeper to withdraw from the Poland squad.
