I wish Poyet all the best, I think he is even starting to realise now that we are definitely in a relegation scrap and 70% of our players are not good enough.
It's time for him to be ruthless and get rid of as much deadwood as we can in January. We need an experienced defender to come in and that may mean losing Virgo out on loan or a permanent move. Players we need to get rid of asap are Hawkins, McLeod, Livermore, the Forest loan players, possibly Craig Davies and Navarro. I''ve also come to realise that Whing and Cox are not good enough and I also have doubts about Hoyte, Dickinson, Wright, Jamie Smith, our keeper Smith and Elphick.
Poyet needs to be ruthless and identify quality, players with desire who can play and able to pass the ball well.
The penny has finally dropped with me that the majority of players we have signed (under Slade and Adams) are not quite up to it. I want Poyet to identify who to bring in, although that will be tough in January.
Lets pay off some of these players who are on contract. I would also like a trimmer squad with more quality rather than a large squad half full of mediocre players. No coincidence that none of our players are wanted by other teams, a shocking indictment I think about on good they are. My rant is complete.

Forster, Murray, Dicker, Crofts, McNulty and Bennett are the only ones i'd be bothered about keeping if we want promotion. Maybe Whing.
I also have faith that C Davies will come good with the right coaching but accept he's been mostly rubbish!

The trouble is last summer's big clear out ended with us getting rid of players like Sullivan and Owusu that we should have kept.

Why neither are of top of the division status or ability, which is what we are aiming for. Sullivan may be one day, but we havent got the time to wait and Owuso is way past his best and is on his way down and wouldnt get a lookin now. It would be between him and Hart for the bench possibly.

Sack the players, sack the manage, sack the players, sack the manager. Anyone else think we need some stability?!

Quite.

There is going to be no big clearout this January. It was obvious last summer that Hawkins and Livermore were not part of future plans yet we couldn't get rid of them then. And given the money that Virgo is reputedly on, we're not going to find a lower league club to take him on, even on loan, without us paying a chunk of his salary. So, what would be the point?

We might get one or two players in January and maybe someone on loan and might ship one or two out, but 90% of the squad will be the same.

I agree with the opening post. It just proves what a load of dross posing as pro footballers we are carrying. Unless we improve the quality overall then Championship football at Falmer will be a million miles away.

A couple of the guy's at work had a look through NSC. They commented on 'how proud I must be to be a Brighton fan', sarcasm dripping from everyword. One of the guy's, who I know went on Fans united and the march in London (he's a Spurs fan), simply said 'I thought Brighton fans were above this sort of slagging, what's point of assasinating your players when you can't do anything until January.' We have certainly gone down in his eye's.

Maybe just maybe we should get behind the players, a novel concept I grant you, because we are stuck with them until January. Slagging them off isn't going to help anyone, more importantly we don't want a reputation of being whinging bastards as why would anyone want to come here.

I agree with what you're saying and can't argue with you're comments on the players, but I don't think it needs to be as drastic as you're saying.

To be top 6 in this division you don't need quality in every position, you can carry a few mediocre players. If we can sign 1 quality centre back, 1 centre midfielder who is capable of controlling a game and two new full backs I rekon we wouldn't be far from a play-off team.

Thinking about it a decent keeper as well. Shit, that's nearly half a team :lolol:

I agree that there are a number of players who simply aren't good enough to get us out of this division and I think that some posters on here are deluding themselves when they rant about passion and commitment...no amount of those admirable qualities will make some of our players better because they simply don't have the ability.

However can the club afford to get rid of those who fall in that category and replace them, in January, with superior players who can match the quality of the top six clubs?

I agree that there are a lot of players who are not making the grade but if we could have got better players we porably would have. We arent going to jave another clear out so soon after the last and we cant afford to free transfer them so we have to hope that soemone else is willing to take them off our hands.

Lets stop slagging players off and get behind the team and hope that either the players get better or Gus can slowly remould the team to his image. What interests me is that Gus seemed convinced we had the players at this club.... before we started playing. What that suggests to me is that the ability is there... its just these players cant play together.

Reading this thread has made me realise that many of our best players were signed by Wilkins. I still kick myself when I think that Knight got rid of him. Let's hope that Poyet can reverse the set backs caused by Adams and to a lesser extent Slade.

Supporters of most teams struggling in their leagues analyse and assess their team's players in this way. Those at the top want to sign Messi, those at the bottom just want to get out of it.

Slades signings were not bad - McNulty, Dicker and Bennett are 3 of our best players and Dickinson seems to be doing ok.

It is a shame about Sullivan - he made a better 2nd keeper than Smith has so far. Scoring goals is not our problem, I would not say we are missing Owusu at the moment.

The warning signs were there for mcleod, Hawkins and Virgo - their clubs no longer wanted them for various reasons. I still don't understand why Livermore has not worked out...

Stability is great if you already have a good manager and team - unfortunately, we had neither under Adams or Slade, and major changes needed to happen for the Club to move forward.

Or would you prefer us "stable" in the Conference and still playing at Withdean?
