I sold an ipod last week that was clearly advertised as ' crackles when connected to a docking station' and battery life is poor may need a replacement soon,

I was shocked when some idiot bought it for £58

NOW the buyer has opened a case saying it is faulty and 'crackles'

FFS did he not read the description fully......he wants a refund and I have refused..

Am I right or wrong? North stand chat advise....

To be honest I gave up a few years back selling things on ebay as most people seemed to whinge about anything asking for money back.

I personally would apologise for any incovenience that it's caused, and say that he should've read the description before purchasing.

See how he responds to that. If he's gracious then offer a refund. If not, keep the money!

you're dead right and if the description was honest, tough and i would hope and expect Ebay to back you, though they have a reputation for defaulting to the support the buyer.

Lol...a few months back I saw an advert for a iPhone4 Box! Clearly stated as just a box ....went for in excess of £250 ...no idea what happened after tht

Re selling things I use eBay frequently and find it very useful ...one just forgets about there fees and then of course good old PayPal :(

You're completely in the right and if they start a case you won't lose your money. As beach hut says, ebay is such a pain for this and I don't use either now for exactly those reasons.

Out of interest, why were you selling it?

If it crackles and has a shit battery, its basically not really worth anything any more. I appreciate that legally you can sell anything if its condition is clearly stated, which it obviously was, but who were you expecting to buy it - some sort of techie who would use the parts? I can't help thinking that you were hoping to trick someone into thinking they were buying a decent item (perhaps not for the price this bloke ended up paying), which is surely morally wrong if not against the rules.

Apologies if I have this completely wrong.

link doesnt work but if you search for 260973779543 it comes up. "The iPod occasionally crackles when connected to a dock but plays ok through a pc" seems pretty straightforward to me. Is the buyer saying it crackles on a dock or through headphones, if the latter then he might have a case; in this situation I would ask him to return it for you to see if it does crackle through the headphones. If it's as described, then he pays postage, if it isn't, then refund him.

Some buyers are a bloody joke on Ebay,I was buying some tools from an ebay shop and just thought i would check their feedback before i purchased.
I had to chuckle when someone had purchased a box of 500 screws from this seller and left negative feedback because 'it was 2 or 3 screws short'.

the buyer is saying it crackles ALL the time...and is claiming it is damaged, I have asked for the damage and he said nothing...also he said it wont connect to a pc which is utter rubbish....

@ATFC I sold it with the caveat it crackles, I expected someone might be able to fix it.....

I got my son to sell a motorised satellite receiver for me stating it hadn't been used for a while and needed a software update. The buyer knew this but said it wasn't working , so he got a refund. When returned there was nothing wrong so it was put back on e-bay as faulty and ideal for spares and it sold for a fiver more than the 1st time.

I would make him send it back recorded delivery at his expense and re-list it.Email him and state he must send it back recorded delivery and you will refund his money. The ball is firmly in his court then, from experience this is the most hassle free way to solve this.

I would expect e-bay will give the buyer a full refund, when cases are opened they are automaticaly closed and the buyer gets a full refund. Somebody is supposed to look at the case - but that rarely happens. If you want to be cheeky ask them to send it back, then after they have sent it say it didn't arrive and ask for the tracking no. ball is then in the buyers court to make a claim via the post office.

From the description, it's perfectly suitable for use at home, connected to a hifi, or for use in a car.

I have no idea what a motorised satellite receiver is, but it sounds much more technical and less widely consumer-based than an iPod. Whilst I accept the swindonseagull was selling it in good faith, personally I feel sorry for the buyer. Not everyone is technically-minded and ebay-savy, and iPod's are a "must-have" item (esp if you have kids) that are very unaffordable. They probably thought they'd got a great bargain. Where else would someone be selling something that for all intents and purposes doesn't really do the job it's sposed to?

thats why I described it as 'crackles' so it was not perfect..

the buyer emailed this evening saying it plays some songs ok.....so he is changing his tune....before he said crackles alll the time......ALSO how did he load songs on it if he could not connect it to a PC?
