I'm thinking of taking a walk along the seafront from Portslade to the Marina. The Powerboat Championship British leg is on 2.30 onwards today. Did anyone watch yesterday and if so was it worth getting excited about?

did not actually watch it but I live about 10 minutes walk from the sea in Hove and you could clearly hear them in my house and they sound awsome. I imagine it is worth a watch. May pop down after the German GP

Cheers bha.fatboy. I know the first F1 Grand Prix I went to at Brands Hatch I was impressed by the noise/atmosphere etc. This'll be a bit different but if they sound as you say then worth a look. Can Button win in Germany?

Doubt it not from P13 anyway. he will be in the top 4 I think. It would be nice to see Montoya bump Shuey off in the 1st corner. just about to start:clap:

Just seen them down the beach. Mighty impressive and the ride of your lfe I'd imagine being inside one of these monsters. Like a formula one car hitting a speed bump at 180mph every fifty metres or something. It was blowing a gale down there today and the things were completely airborne half the time. A lot of the skill must be making sure they don't flip over, looks like. Equally impressed by the wee blue helicopter bombing about a couple of feet above the action. Not a lot of margin for error there either. Pretty cool

That was yesterday. The burned out hull was on a trailer when we arrived at the pits today. They'd covered it with a tarpaulin by the time we got back.

Had planned to watch from the marina, but the west breakwater was closed, so walked down to the pier for a great view.

As THPP said, the boats were airborne most of the time, and most conked out at some point during the race, making it difficult to keep track of who was at the front.

The three girlies having their photos taken with the drivers before the race were having fun, too. One of them looked terrified just getting on a boat that was moored in the marina. Hate to imagine how she'd have been if she'd been in it during the race!

Due to the stormy conditions 25knot winds etc and deteriorating conditions the boats were run on a short course which meant that they didn't get as far as the Lagoon in the western limit of the course, and the race was shortened as well (a swell.:lolol: ). Time we reached the Marina it was almost over. As THPP said the helicopter was very impressive as could be seen hovering (it seemed) just over the water in front of these F****** huge boats. Very James Bondish. Brighton was so chocca it was amazing. Well earned diet coke at the newly opened (yesterday) Wetherspoons formerly Jackson's Wharf. Then a walk back to Portslade overtaking the powerboats on their trailers in Marine Drive tailbacks.
