Power cuts dotted all over London at the moment, tubes completely cattled. First New York, now us?

It's the dawn of the apocalypse, or the martians have finally landed, or something....

as 10cc say, not in hove
does seem a bit strange, i've been checking the news because mrs afters is stuck at victoria.

a "simple" national grid failure according to teletext...same as the states

Just been on the phone to a Thameslink train stuck without power between Blackfriars and London Bridge.

About two minutes ago, the power came back and the train moved onwards towards Brighton. It was due in at 7.30pm and I would guess it will end up about an hour late.

Don't blame the transport companies for this. It's a national grid failure.

Yeah, all power out in the office for about an hour - apart from my computer, bizarrely. Maybe with all the curry I've poured into it over the years, it has generated its own back-up power source. There are some rare days when not being involved in the rush-hour and working late is a godsend, and from the sounds of it, today is one of them. My commiserations, anyone who's had a nightmare getting home.

Having worked for an electricity company for years, this very often happens when we have had a long hot spell.

The ground gets very hard and dry. It contracts around the electricity cables and splits them very slightly.

The splits are minute and impossible to detect.

Then when it rains - water and electricity don't mix and causes shorts.

BUT...

Latest news is that the Thameslink train failed to get as far as London Bridge. Signals are still out - Thameslink website blames a power surge at the signal box.

Power just come back in Tooting. Luckily I was working from home today, it would have been a long journey home otherwise.

There's so little info about these cuts. The BBC just has that there are cuts and the travel sites that there some disruptions (no indication what lines/trains/stations). Not very helpful.

I lost all the food in my freezers

You should be covered by your household insurance for that loss.

We were lucky. The Missus and I left Oxford Circus on the tube at 5.00pm. Home in Seaford without delay. We did think the sky in London was very darl at 3.30 with all the rain. Bet the problem was weather related.
Hope everyone gets home tonight

Not worth it sadly. The state of insurance around here at the moment, it would cost more in raised premiums. The insurance companies are hurting big time.

The kids enjoyed eating all the ice cream in a hurry though. Me? I was over watching the Albion. :clap2:
