Welcome sir, watch out for the pedants on here. They'll say things like "We didn't sign Bobby Smith 'til 1964",and "The first time we drew 0-0 with York was 1973"

hi all, its my first posting and would just like to say hi to anyone who knows me, especially those of you who may have known me from the old north stand days. was a regular, home and awy in the seventies and first game was when bobby smith plyed against york in around 61-62. cant rember exactly. just know it poured with rain and was 0-0. could not write down all the highlights from many years of following albion but just a few remain vivid!!! in early seventies coming back from rochdale having won 2-1 and needing just a point from last game. if i recall it ended 1-1 and templeman scored. went up to rochdale with Deano, Dave J, and also recall being ejected from the ground that day twice for over exuberance!! anyhow, hi to any who remember me...geoff philpott
"PEDANT ALERT"
Sorry to piss on your first post Geoff, but Bobby Smith didn't sign for the Albion until 1964(14th May according to John Vinicombe's excellent book-"Albion") , so your first match would have been during season 64-65.
With regards to your other memories I too was a North Stander from the 60's through to the early 80's -Great days !
Were you there on Boxing Day 1971 when Bournemouth fans temporarily "occupied" the North Stand before being driven out by the Brighton hordes:clap2:

I was, at a very tender age but it was my first experience of "trouble". My dad and I walked round to the North Stand loos at HT. On the way back saw loads of Albion (scarfs tied around wrists/Ben Sherman shirts/skins) chasing Bournemouth fans back towards the chicken run. Just a thin, rusty wire mesh fence separated the fans then - not much use and no cameras, video evidence, then. Police used to put coins in the fingers of their leather gloves and flick you on the head - painful.

That used to be "the" match - don't think we'd even heard of Palace then!

<PEDANT ALERT>

No, we played in the stripes in 61/62. We didn't change to the blue with white sleeves until 64/65 </PEDANT ALERT>

I was just thinking about the fashion for scarves around the wrists the other day. What the hell was that about?
