Rey is a Mary Sue, way over powered to the point of being ridiculous. As they leave no explanation or back story as to why instead just inserting a character like that into the story it looks a lot like lazy average script writing.
All that could have avoided if they simply had a character like Maz Kanata, a character with a vast knowledge of the universe and finger on the pulse of information talk about a prophecy of someone who would be the most powerful of all and so on and so on.
Only two moments which I still hate, the odd green milking of a strange monster and the superman Leia moment. Dreadful, really dreadful. Also the whole casino trip was far far too long.
It's my belief that the criticism you have is addressed in Episodes I - III.
Sure it is. Episodes I - III touch on a prophecy of someone who would be the most powerful of all and so on and so on.
Watched it last night and found it hugely disappointing.
In fact it was so poor it’s put me off watching episode 9 when it’s released.
I was so impressed with Rogue One but this one is as bad as the prequels.
They weren't talking about Rey. That was setting it up for the original Star Wars arc. Not this new trilogy.
What do u think of Force Awakens?
Tfa and tlj have been lucky to have had as much love as they had, equally the prequels have unfairly bad rep.
Don’t get me wrong, The phantom menace is terrible but the other two are in the same vein as the most recent films, and return of the Jedi.
Not that I want to even acknowledge Eps I-III, but how do you know the "chosen one" in the prophecy isn't referring to Rey? Also, there's still one more film to come so there's plenty of time for any questions to be answered. I mean JJ has a track record of tying up all those loose ends...
In my view I don't really need to know the back story of every character. At the end of ANH we knew very little about Darth Vader, Han Solo, Obi-Wan etc other than who was bad, who was good, who was a bit hot-headed etc, and was that film any the poorer for it? We even didn't see the Emperor and he supposedly ran the entire galaxy! Eps I-III added nothing to the original trilogy and that felt the need to give us ridiculously dull back stories to half the characters. It's also why I don't see the need for the upcoming Han Solo film. I'd much rather they expand the universe and give us something new.
Just realised no one said “I have a bad feeling about this”.
So I googled it and apparently the droid BB-8 said it. What? Yes really!
It's like they tried to be really cool and edgy, but it didn't work.
