I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though I ultimately think this new trilogy is utterly pointless. The end of RotJ was perfect and that story arc should have been left alone. In no way was TLJ flawless - the casino side mission achieved nothing, the off-screen death of Admiral Akbar was criminal (why couldn't he have been the one to fly the ship on the kamikaze mission? Give him a glorious exit), Captain Phasma was once again underused - but I loved all the Luke, Rey, Ren sections. I was delighted that Rey's parents were "nobodies" (unless this is a red herring) as it just opens up the universe and stops it being a predictable Skywalker soap opera. This has also seemingly infuriated the weird fanboys as their speculations and theories from the past two years were dashed in one line. Genius. Hell, I even didn't mind the Porgs, which really surprised me.
While I'm on, I really don't get the love for Rogue One. Looked great, thought it was a good premise, but was so boring. I didn't care if the characters survived or not. Was only saved by the appearance of Vader. Actually, without looking at IMDB or Google I bet most people would struggle to name five characters from it (apart from Vader, Leia, Tarkin).

While I'm on, I really don't get the love for Rogue One. Looked great, thought it was a good premise, but was so boring. I didn't care if the characters survived or not. Was only saved by the appearance of Vader. Actually, without looking at IMDB or Google I bet most people would struggle to name five characters from it (apart from Vader, Leia, Tarkin).

Right. I went to see it for the second time today and encourage as many as possible to do the same. I was on the fence after the first viewing but after seeing it a second time I enjoyed it even more. The brain is a funny thing but you notice so much know when you know where a story is going.
I am also now farmire sure that Rey is Ben’s brother. More than one hint at this throughout the film.
Only two moments which I still hate, the odd green milking of a strange monster and the superman Leia moment. Dreadful, really dreadful. Also the whole casino trip was far far too long.
But I’m now giving this film a good 9/10. Love the ending more than ever.

Except it's not.
There's no explanation as to why this character has made it through two films with hardly a scratch on them and wielded and used the power with next to no training like a trained Jedi could.

Sure it is. Episodes I - III touch on a prophecy of someone who would be the most powerful of all and so on and so on.

Watched it last night and I'm really relieved to find many on here who felt as I did leaving the cinema: not sure whether it was good or not. After a night's sleep, I think I'm leaning towards thinking it was okay.
1. I just don't think Kylo Ren/Snoke are a patch on Darth Vader and Palpatine. I wish they'd just call him Ben Solo or Darth Solo for starters. The actor/character is just far too conflicted for me to be fearful of him. And Snoke isn't scary in the slightest.
2. Why did every single line Luke say have to be delivered with such drama/purpose? Sounded so fake and forced.
3. Am I the only one who thinks CGI and HD is killing the atmosphere in films? The new creatures, especially the snow ones at the end, just look like pokemon. I remember the Star Wars planets being really atmospheric and making you feel like you were actually there. They're just far too crisp and polished now for me to take any pleasure from.
Overall, I think it was alright. From memory I enjoyed The Force Awakens more. Can't even remember what Rogue One was about and it was only a year ago, which is a bit troubling!

What makes me laugh is the constant criticism about character development.
Yet what character development is there in Empire Strikes Back? A Boba Fett cameo perhaps? Or Luke going from boy to man after half an hour on a swamp?

Not that I want to even acknowledge Eps I-III, but how do you know the "chosen one" in the prophecy isn't referring to Rey? Also, there's still one more film to come so there's plenty of time for any questions to be answered. I mean JJ has a track record of tying up all those loose ends...
In my view I don't really need to know the back story of every character. At the end of ANH we knew very little about Darth Vader, Han Solo, Obi-Wan etc other than who was bad, who was good, who was a bit hot-headed etc, and was that film any the poorer for it? We even didn't see the Emperor and he supposedly ran the entire galaxy! Eps I-III added nothing to the original trilogy and that felt the need to give us ridiculously dull back stories to half the characters. It's also why I don't see the need for the upcoming Han Solo film. I'd much rather they expand the universe and give us something new.
I thought it was ok. Nothing special but was the first watchable Star Wars film since return of the Jedi and set episode 8 up well.
Tfa and tlj have been lucky to have had as much love as they had, equally the prequels have unfairly bad rep.
Don’t get me wrong, The phantom menace is terrible but the other two are in the same vein as the most recent films, and return of the Jedi.

Er, no. AotC is the worst film I have ever seen at the cinema and I've had the misfortune to sit through Nativity 3: Dude Where's My Donkey!

Because Rey wasn't even a thing when EPs 1-3 were created.
I hope JJ brings it back together because Johnson just made a hodge podge of rubbish.
Admiral Akhbar, an iconic and much loved character is simply killed off by them pretty much going with the "oh yeah, Ackbar died" line.
New as in crappy weak dark side characters?
