Possible new strikers from Southampton

It seems Southampton don't priduce many strikers; there are only one is each of the year group of scholars. The first three here are in the first team squad. I am guessing the likes of Tessem and Beattie are not going to sign for us.

Southamton strikers we may be able to get:

Dexter Blackstock Prolific scorer in the youth teams, has been called up to England U20 and U19s.

Leon Best A target man, he holds the ball up well. Made two appearances for the first team.

Arron Davies Five foot nine so probably not a target man. Has played up front and in midfield.


David McGoldrick Link up player between the midfield and strikers. Signed from Notts County like Leon Best.

I was assuming that we are not in a position to be able to take strikers like that.

Hence looking at theor scholars, all of which are in their first team squad, which is something we seem reluctant to do with our strikers - even those who have been rewarded with a professional contract.

If she's half good looking our Leon will lay alongside, or play away, with anyone. Such are his skills, he doesn't need the size of a football pitch to display them. A cubicle is big enough.

Mark McGhee was asked if we were still looking for a target man.

He did mention Southampton last night and now people are talking about which one MM may have been looking at.

Southampton have an injury crisis at present so probably not going to happen.

Agree with Barrington Belgrave he looked pretty sharp in the pre season friendly, solid build but quick too. Think Leon Best would be err... best though!

I put a thread on here about a month ago saying we are seeking a new target man and it was not in my interest at the time to name him,which I didnt.

I got a bit of stick of certain people on here for not naming names,but the man was Dexter Blackstock,and I PMd Yorkie and BHA LInks with the name at the time,as I know I can trust these two with confidential info,and not silly gossip!

Thats what you missed.
