Not expecting much here but as the anti's have their own vitriolic thread, let me start a Thank You and Good Luck Steve thread.
I can understand the vitriole to a degree but he has to do what he thinks is best for him and his family. He made a very fair point that if he said no and we don't get Falmer, he is effectively out of a job in the summer. (And yes, I know that it was his fault he only had a one year contract)
You can count the number of managers who stay loyal to a club on the fingers of one hand (Gradi, Curbishley etc.) and I never expected this from Coppell. Like Adams, he's been got rid of unfairly a few times at other clubs so it's only right he looks after himself. He's going to what he sees as a more secure job with better prospects - i.e. he won't have to beg steal or borrow players but can buy players of the quality of Goater and Sidwell.
If you were manager of say Swindon and the Norwich job come along, how many of you, hand on heart would turn it down? Higher division, better ground and more money to spend.
We all expect players and managers to stay loyal but to most, it's not their club. They use clubs the same way as we use companies to further our careers. Someone the other day said that they had turned down a job with better pay because they were happy where they were. But what if your current job could disappear in a year due to the decision of someone who has nothing to do with the company? Wouldn't the new job look more enticing.
I'm unhappy he's gone, not happy with Madjeski (Stuck to the technicalities of his "no poaching" but not the morals) and disillusioned with the football world in general. But, I understand his reasons and would probably have done the same thing in his position. So I Say :-
Good Luck Steve and thanks.
