Popping a myth

I have had to do some research around the Football League today for a client and one thing struck me as amazing and seems to pop the myth that clubs promoted from the 1st Div (Championship) do not survive in the Premiership and end up as yo-yo teams

All of the last FIVE winners of the 1st Division (Norwich, Pompey, Man City, Fulham and Charlton) are all still established Premiership sides - although Norwich look like blowing it this season.

Indeed 9 of the 11 WINNERS of the 1st Division (since the Premiership was created) are still in the top flight - only Sunderland and Forest dropped back down. So it seems the yo-yo analogy may only really apply to those in second place or play-off winners .... what price Wigan to stay up next season???

You've made a good point there OTLW and personally I think the idea of this 'huge' gap between The Premiership and Championship that is peddled by many is indeed a myth. There are large gaps between the super-rich few at the top and the rest within The Premiership but not a lot to choose between the rest and the best in the Championship.
