from 'farming today' on radio 4 this morning (yes, i know, i know) some old codger (paraphrased slightly) :

" i'm so desparately sad for the rural people of this country at the end of fox hunting, so desparately sad for the people who depend on the hunt, desparately sad for the hounds and most of all desparately sad for the foxes who i will now no longer see running over my land"

i guess the foxes will be desparately sad for you too you old sadist!

Yep. Sometimes I look at my three year old son and shed the odd tear or two when I realise how he'll feel now that this society has deprived him of the chance of climbing up a few chimneys to pay for his upkeep. :nono:

I guess he'll just have to forgive and forget and move on.

I dunno, the nostalgic in me is quite glad to hear the old "the foxes actually really love being chased around then torn to shreds" argument getting of its last ever airings. It's like watching UK Gold.

Still, now that it's all over for sinister drunken ruddy-faced twats in stupid outfits, you won't hear that sort of guff again. :(

274 hunts meet tomorrow, be interesting to see how the police deal with it. Or don't deal with it as the case may be.

I totally agree with what the "old codger" said. Hunts currently control the fox population, and encourage people to allow some foxes to survive for sporting purposes. IF the ban actually works, farmers will simply wipe-out the foxes on their land as they are vermin.

Personally i think hunting foxes with hounds is barbaric bullshit and whilst acknowledging they can be a nuisance surely there must be alternatives. I've also never heard a decent explanation from the hunt as to why drag hunting is not a viable alternative for their 'Sport'.

Whilst taking these stance i will though admit there is one major Catch 22 situation which undermines banning fox hunting. Whilst the majority of the population are against fox hunting they would oppose suggestions that Police resources could potentially be diverted away from crimes like burglary to enforce the ban. I also think that too many anti hunt protesters turn the debate into a class issue and are far too eager to get involved in violent protests.

Not sure wherer the answer lies? :(

Kangaroos in Australia are vermin also - but we have controlled culls and don't gallop around the countryside setting our dingoes on them chased by velvet suited hard hat wearing minorities on horseback...

What gives US the right to "allow some foxes to survive"

If our intensive farming methods cannot stand the loss of an infinitesimally small percentage of livestock and if our razorwire, illegal poisoning and alarm systems can't keep the foxes out then I say GOOD f***ing LUCK to the foxes.
:salute:

I am. Put this nastly little past-time into the history books alongside bear baiting. Just like Tony Blair has done, to his credit.

These scare stories of mass protests up and down ye fine olde rurall Englande is likely to be bollocks in a week or two's time, if at all.

I don't see the same arguments put forward to ban the "working man's" sport - greyhound racing and coursing. Maybe they don't still throw live kittens and hares/rabiits with their paws tied together for young greyhounds to get the idea???

Are you certain it's not a class thing??

I like the way the poor downtroden sadistic bastards are all upset about how their poor little hounds may have to be put down.

What, like the scum do to between 1/6 and 1/3 of the hounds each year because they either don't show the required bloodlust to rip foxes to pieces or that they are just too old to be of any use anymore.

And the hounds are untamable and so cannot be re-housed? What comlpete crap. I used to know of several that had been liberated in the past and became absoultely wonderful pets, especially with children. I took a bit of time agreed but then the scum don't care to spend time, they just like to kill things for pleasure.

Hey, I keep a livery yard. We have 88 fox hounds on our property, I would dearly love for each of those hounds to go to a loving family and be great with children. I must be doing something wrong - but please come out here and show us how we can keep these hounds as pets. One bit my daughter about ten days ago and was put down. I don't trust them as pets for us let alone to give to anyone else as a pet.

*That is all hypothetical as tomorrow they will run to ground and 80 odd people will ride to those hounds*

Signed, A downtroden sadistic scum bastard. I'll be in Wigan tomorrow but Starry Jnr x 2 will ride to hounds.

Why do you have 88 hounds? Are they bred purely for hunting?

As someone above has posted, it may now be illegal to gallop after a fox on horseback with a pack of hounds but it is still legal to send one dog into a fox's den in order to flush it out so it can be blasted to bits with a shot gun.

I doubt very much any foxes lives have been saved.

I don't own them, they are kept on our property and we look after them from time to time. There are two packs of hounds here, they belong to two differnt hunts in this area.

Yes, they are bred for hunting.
