Not sure this is entirely true. Depends on the full definition of free trade and free movement. I think we have free trade with many of our commonwealth cousin-countries but still with restrictions on movement of people.
Someone pointed out that when we joined the EU we were NINE countries with no "riff-raff".
The EU is now 28 countries and growing .... but not with our generosity and welcoming nature any more.

Leipzig ? In the 80's ? I bet he didnt ......Fair enough, but don't think many Brits need or possibly have the guts to go to another country to find work. Back in the Eighties my mate went over to leipzig looking for Brickie work. He was with a gang of five, the site wanted three and they promptly escorted the other two back into france to make their way home.
Surely we must find a way to control this. I know part of the problem is our own government but in Bognor we have the migrants stacked 10 to a flat undercutting the local workforce and demoralised youngsters priced out of jobs. These people have felt they have no choice but to believe in Brexit. Others may choose to mock them but when you have nothing, you have less to lose.
I looked into the pro and cons of this decision and some of the remainers concerns don't match my concerns. Being in the construction industry it has been a struggle to earn a wage to cover the bills that were easily affordable only 5 years ago.
All this didn't need to happen if Gordon Brown had given us the referendum at the Lisbon treaty stage, which the clown didn't even turn up on time to sign. In my opinion the country would have kicked the EU into touch.
This decision has, albeit temporarily ripped my family apart. The well off in my family remain and the not so lucky are leave.
I did not vote for Farages white UK dream. He is a relic of the tebbit era of diplomacy, but i was forced to side with his anti EU stance. The EU commission has become something bigger than it was set up to be.

But they don't expect the free movement of people and they don't share as big a market with us. It is what the EU expect.

can always rely on the Germans to look for pragmatic solutions. the word "rebate" came up immediate i read this, which has always irritated the French as they have to provide most of it, so could get them onboard. remember its not just about immigration though, if it includes Danish style opt-out on a wider range of directives, that could satisfy all parties.
bottom line, and something else that someone from Germany apparently recognised, EU needs to split into those on the periphery and those on the core, or change in other ways. this is needed to reconcile the Euro anomly and the fact that every country simply doesnt want deep political integration.

The Treaties of the EU will continue to apply to all 27 member states. These (including the ToR) will apply to any deals, arrangements etc we may have with the EU post-exit so they will have to comply; hence your negotiating position is a non-starter.

So it's now pretty clear, and Merkel has just confirmed this, that the first two options of the choice that [MENTION=4019]Triggaaar[/MENTION] indicates in this poll is upon us. Merkel said no cherry-picking and that the situation for those outside the EU will be worse than for those inside, and she's the one that we really need to pay attention to in this situation. So, access to the single market and continued immigration, or no movement of peoples and no single market?

The good thing is that even if we insist on ditching free movement and are denied access to the free market because of it, then we can still apply again at any time after that when the economy subsequently disolves and the country bankrupts itself.

Maybe, I'm not counting, but the remainers can read the points and comment if they want. Most people on NSC are remainers.
