Sorry should have communicated something about this.

I turned it off at the request of the hosts to see what difference it makes to our server usage.

This has come after the hosts made a polite request that our business was not welcome in it's current form - mainly due to the heavy load around the time of the Falmer decision.

The alternative is a dedicated server and the price quoted (although I have not shopped around) was about £100 a month. Somewhat more than the £25 or so a month that NSC costs me currently. As you can probably guess, I'm not keen to pay out £100 a month if I can help it.

Searching off again, I am afraid, so we can monitor the performance difference.

My suggestion on the thread which the above was posted on was that if 100 of us contributed £1 a month ie £12 a year then NSC could have its dedicated server are sort out the bandwidth problems which occur sometime.

I personally was surprised that the cost of NSC falls onto just one person.

I assume if there is enough support then Bozza could look into it.

Simple question YES or NO, I'll start

Over to you Bozza!

Most definitely and we've been here before.

Perhaps Bozza could give us details of an account number and we can the all set up direct debits ?

to encourage donations, why not throw in an @northstandchat.com service? Not sure if that would be counter productive, but a dedicated server would probably be well under utilised, and people would be more happy to subscribe to an email service than chip in for a message board.

Crikey. It's been months since this discussion was done to death. Bozza - don't forget to name those that choose 'No' and then we can do the 'I thought Polls were anonymous' discussion as well.

I've always been in favour of making a contribution to NSC as I can't see why Bozza should be expected to constantly pay out of his own pocket. I mean, he doesn't even post as often as many.

Apart from anything else it will soon be one of the few ways I have of staying in touch with all things Albion. This applies to more than a few regular posters on NSC.

I would glady pay £1 per month.

I know personally how much NSC costs to host when I got caught out with over useage of bandwidth to the sum of £500 a few years ago.

Bozza kindly offered to take over when I got disenchanted with the costs.

We must keep NSC alive.

More than happy to make a contribution of up to £5 a month. Why not set up an account Bozza in order that we can make payments via a direct debit? There is no reason why all the costs of running NSC should fall to one person.

Well worth paying for, I'd cough up no prob.

Why not put a Pay Pal (or similar) contribute button on the site somewhere so we can just make an occasional donation by credit card when there are bills to be paid?

I don't really like the idea of a compulsory payment, because we would lose a lot of the occasional visitors from other clubs etc.

Of course I would although there's no point spending money which need not be spent. If the current hosts don't want NSC then Bozza can take his "business" elsewhere. Although, as I understand it, the current hosts have always been pretty good to us.
