Witnesses say they heard a stalling engine...no explosion on impact....did it run out of fuel

You know you are not the first person to ask this,i would imagine that on impact that there would plenty of ignition sources for escaping fuel of which surely fuel tanks would have burst/ruptured thus a fire ?
