"PC Lightfoot, who weighs more than 20st,"

I thought you were merrily prankstering away there, but no, your quote is indeed correct.

Interesting to see the particular bully boy in question is a 'special'. Wonder what he does as a full-time job ?

care assistant! :jester:

Shows what idiots there are in the CPS to send this to court.

I think it shows just how many people able to do those funny handshakes must sit on the bench for this to go to magistrates court and the bullies in question actually end up being compensated by the victim :nono:

OK the guy has fought for our country and i have the upmost respect for that, however i fail to see how that impact on the facts of this particular situation.
Its obvious to see by the ending result this situation got right out of hand. However i have to question some of the story.....an unprovoked assault by the police....some how i dont think so. It says the cctv shows him calling out to the police, so how do we know what he said to them, after all he could and probably was gobbing off and then when fronted by the police it all gets out of hand by all those involved. Maybe if the officers hand'nt of got red mist and went over the top then we would be hearing a different story, although i doubt it from the Mirror as they love a bit of Police bashing.
Its a thankless job policeing pissheads on a friday and saturday night, sometimes officers dont do themselves any favours and it snowballs....but an unprovoked assault.....i dont think so!!!!!!!

Absolutely spot on that the victims service history has no bearing whatsoever on the facts of this particular situation.

However, the fact is that the victim ( and yes, I will continue to use that term as that's what he is ) was never once violent towards the police in question in the footage. No matter what he may have said, there is never an excuse for police to counter any amount of verbal in this manner. Yes, I don't envy police dealing with pissheads on a Friday & Saturday night, but no-body's forcing them to do the job, are they ?

You complete idiot, The victim was already being restrained by 3 police officers. He really didn't need to be punched 8 times and have his face scraped along the ground no matter what he said.

Steward 433.

Read my post again please and this time please tell me where i made reference to what happened to guy whilst on the ground was ok because i think i actually said it got out of hand. My actual point was that in the article it made reference to it being an unprovoked assault. This indicates that the guy was standing there doing absolutely nothing and saying nothing and the police just beat him up for no reason what so ever.......so nothing to do what happened after it all got out of hand and over the top on the floor.

They are officers of the law and ALL assults by the police should be classed as unprovoked as they should be WAY WAY above that.

Would it be unprovoked if one of the stewards did that to a customer even though the customer had "gobbed off" at the steward? I say yes because the vast majority of us stewards are above that.

I have been abused spat at even had a customer throw a punch at me and i don't find the need to act like that Neanderthal PSCO did!!

Actually, the victim states several times in the article that he was indeed pissed and is careful not to paint himself as a total angel.

Again though, no amount of verbal should equate to provocation for a police officer, simple as.

Re-read the story - he is reacting to them asking what he is doing.

Look like a pretty unprovoked assault to me, unless your definition of provocation is talking to a police officer.

If the same had happened between an individual and a group of lads, would you be saying the same.

Like i said, some officers don't do themselves any favours and go over the top and this is what happens.
So i say again my point was with the portrayal of this story being totally unprovoked because without any lawful excuse for the officers to go hands on in the first instance this would have never even got to court in the first case.
Personally i think he's said somthing to the police in order for them to stop what they are doing and speak to him in the first place then somthing has happened for them to go hands on (maybe to be nicked for what he said...i dont know i wasnt there) and its all gone down hill from there.......so using your example of when you are working, you know without any reason what so ever you wouldnt just go hands on for no reason what so ever because that would make it an "unprovoked assault"

Did you read what the judge said ? - especially about the accounts of the Police officers. I think there is the answer as to how it got to court in the first place.

On tape it does...however at present the story only gives the sides of the story from the guy involved and the judge who presided over his appeal. Why did the initial court find him guilty......and we hav'nt heard the officers side.

Having re-read the story as instructed a big point for me is why the paramedics fealt the need to call the police about him (if it was him, dosnt make that clear)

Also says somthing like the cctv starts with the guy unsteady on his feet then the officers going at him.

So what happened before the video starts?

My whole point is not stating what they did to him is ok..its not, but there is more to this than what we can see and what we have heard. And that without knowing the whole story its not fair to label it an unprovoked assault.

One court says guilty, another says not.......who's right?
