Police have today admitted that they jumped to premature conclusions following the discovery of human remains across the English countryside. A murder enquiry was launched after the discovery of two legs, an arm and a severed head. However, following a case review, a spokeswoman for Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit has confirmed that the "victim" may still be alive. Police now know that the man had eczema, discoloured and curled under toenails and had lost his front teeth several years before. The police are now working on the theory that the man suffered from very poor health and that his head and limbs may simply have fallen off. From the sequence of discoveries, the police now know that the man lost his head first. "We believe that in looking for his missing head, the man became disorientated and wandered away from the Leicestershire area. It is most likely that the man lost his arm fumbling through the Hertfordshire undergrowth and then his left leg when he tripped over a holdall." The cause of the loss of the man's right leg is still being investigated. Police have denied reports that it was hit by a police baton and are due to deliver a full report to Downing Street later today.
