Just back from the Pogues Brixton gig. Shane pissed as a fart from beginning to end, had a different drink almost every song (and what looked like a 1.5l bottle of vodka for the last encore) but pulled off a blinder. He was totally intelligible when he spoke between songs, just a load of slurring/swearing but went into autopilot when singing, didn't miss a lyric or a beat, his timing was spot on for two hours and two encores, ending with Fairytale of New York as snow descended from the rafters. A great show that had no right to be that good, started with a tribute to Joe Strummer, ended with a tribute to Kirsty Macoll.

Off to Brixton for the Pogues gig tonight! Cant wait! The Pogues at the Brighton Centre used to be brilliant. I can still see Kirsty Macoll on stage trying to dance with a very drunk McGowan!

What time did it finish as I need to get the 00.05 train back to Worthing. The Academy said Pogues due on from 9pm til 11pm but everytime i have seen them they have been on later than planned!

They were on at 9:15 on the nose and off at just after 11:15. Cait O'Riordon is sexy as hell and does the dancing with McGowan (i.e. holds him up as he staggers round with her). Every track you ever wanted to hear is played, a total party atmosphere, enjoy.

You're right Lush, possibly the last time the real original Pogues line up will ever tour in one piece.

Dirty Old Town
The Sick Bed Of Cuchulainn
The Old Main Drag
A Pair Of Brown Eyes
Lullaby Of London
Medley (instrumental)
The Broad Majestic Shannon
White City
Tuesday Morning
Rain Street
A Rainy Night In Soho

The Irish Rover
Fairytale Of New York
Yeah Yeah Yeah

Sounds almost identical to Monday's set list Mr B, everything you wanted to hear and more. The only one they didn't play that I was hoping to hear was Waltzing Matilda although it's not really a 'gig' song I suppose. The song that stuck in the head on the tube and that everyone seemed to be whistling was Rainy Night in Soho. Could definately have gone again, although not at tout prices (£100 per ticket was one quote)

Saw them several times in the 80s, and as I recall (through the guinness haze, so may not be totally accurate) they never played Waltzing Matilda then either.

Sometimes though, they were all so far gone it was hard to tell what song they WERE playing.

Fairytale of New York is my favourite christmas song...I love the lines:

I could have been someone
Well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me
When I first met you
I kept them right here babe
And put them with my own
Can't live without you babe
I built my dreams around you

I'm welling up.

Remember seeing them at the Brighton Centre in the very late 80's and the stage set was of an oversized kitchen. Kirsty McColl came on stage by walking out of a giant FRIDGE!!!! Brilliant gig.
