Supply pipe leading....now back garden...they told us....how come you didn't have to tell them, how they know?

We reported that our Bills were higher than usual so they "investigated" dug up the alley out the back of the house and that's how they came to this conclusion.

The best way to check:
If you have a water meter, turn the tap off at the meter (outside/on the street) if the meter is still "spinning" (counting water) then it is a faulty meter, call the water board and ask them to do the same teat in front of you, with the meter "open" there is no way to tell where it is coming from, it is more than likely at the meter where the problem is, any decent plumber should be able to sort it out, but get the water board to do the donkey work.

Doesn't the water company own the pipes up to the point where they enter your house?

This use to be the case but a change in the law allowed water companies to install meters which are in the road and to then say the pipe from the meter to the house is the property owners, try a company called "in the pipeline" they are specialists as you may need to get permission to dig the pavement and connect onto the water companies meter they are authorised in both instances
