The more I read about Harley, the more it reminds me of the flak Dean Wilkins took when he was trying to settle in the team. Creative footballer with unhelpful body language = public enemy number one. Thankfully he managed it in the end and turned out to be a fine player. Harley could well do too, given a chance.

I have still not forgiven Harley for the WOEFUL 'performance', if I can even call it that, against Palace. He looked so disinterested and inept that evening it was unbelievable. I have never taken a dislike to a player so fast as him. It even annoyed me when he celebrated his goal against Barnsley as if he had scored a mesmirising Messi-esque wondergoal.

i couldn't believe my ears when after he missed an open goal with an air shot the crowd started singing his name!!

I'm pretty sure thats called getting behind the team. What were we supposed to boo him?

And regarding Harley. He is slow on the ball and his first touch is awful. Many a time he could have set the wingers off last night but a poor first touch or dallying on the ball meant the pass wasnt on anymore.

Spot on mate, but your wasting your time. There are some on here that think it is fine to boo our players, then moan when the player doesn't respond.

If we're getting behind the team lets not single out Harley then,i for one never boo our team or our players.

I will defend Harley. When he signed he was not presented to fans as "the answer" to any creative issue arising from the loss of Bennett. He was simply signed, according to Gus, as a decent player who could do a decent job for us. Which in my opinion, he does. If people perceive him to be the creator in the midfield then I would question exactly what they expect him to create, given that CMS is the only target up front at the moment, often covered by 2 defenders. Harley's other options therefore are to play the simple ball to Noone, Lua Lua or Buckley, for them to do their "bit". More often than not this season that has been limited to one of those three, so if we're talking about Harley being the one with vision, I would suggest he's done as well as anyone else in finding those team mates people expect him to find. He's not in the team to be Bridcutt mark II. In a good, confident side, when we're in control, he looks flairy and good. In a team with minimal outlets, under pressure from quicker, faster players, he can look slightly off the pace and lackaday. But in my opinion, no more (overall) than any other of the front 10-12 players who have represented us this season. His pen against Millwall was a bit manky though.

What does Harley actually do? How many assists does he have from this season to go with his 2 goals?
He has no strength, can't tackle, minces around doing nothing 95% of the time, he has no commitment, bottles it when someone challenges him, doesn't even track back when he loses the ball, his passing is crap for a "creative midfielder" and his set-pieces have been shite bar that one free-kick against Peterborough, despite the fact he arrived here with the tag of "set-piece specialist"
If he actually looked as if he was trying, maybe he wouldn't be getting as much stick as he is, but it is obvious that he does not give a f*** about the club or the fans.
Arrogant, talentless tosser.

Sparrow isn't good enough for this level either, but you can actually see that he is giving it his all for the cause.

I have seen Harley play the one game against Barnsley. In that game he passed the ball cleanly and accurately, supporting the winger and the striker well. He scored. Job done.

Trouble is, he hasn't helped his case by looking like he doesn't give a damn & only playing 10 yd passes. Hardly the creative midfielder Gus sold us. Gus also told us he is a dead ball specialist. Well one decent free kick does not a dead ball specialist make. Add to that, he has twice said he doesn't practise dead ball situations in training-so doesn't bother in training or matches either and frankly it shows. Reminds me of Thomson from a couple of years back. Makes us look like we only have 10 men. Unfortunately Gus doesn't admit if he has made a mistake, so Harley will keep playing and Paynter will be signed. Remember how long it took to finally concede Holroyd wasn't good enough? Talk about refs not admitting their mistakes.

agree, however most on here would argue that was by far his best performance in the stripes...I still think Harley will be a good player for us but admit he needs to show some promising signs sooner rather than later.

Honestly mate, if there's no movement across the park from the rest of the team then there isn't exactly a plethora of opportunities for him to pick passes into the paths of onrushing players. As a team we are crap at going forward together and attacking, crap at moving around of the ball. These are the biggest areas we need to work on.

Exactly, we're not a team set up for a man in the middle playing incisive passes to one of numerous runners. In terms of set pieces, just exactly how many goals are scored directly from corners these days? Yes he hasn't over-excited on the free kick front but he's scored one, whipped a few in, as well as being stood aside for Lua Lua to smash one into the wall for example. I would add, it's not exactly like fans favourite Noone puts a corner on a six-pence either. He just lobs it into the area and nothing more, to my eye.

He's woeful. But i hope he proves me wrong (he won't though). But i'll always get behind every player.

I think some on here are being very harsh on Harley. This is how I have seen his performances in the games I have been to.
Sunderland: 7 improved as game went on popped the ball about well
Posh: 8 again passed it well + great free kick
Bris C: 6 not as involved but still got off a couple of decent shots
Millwall: 7 terrible, terrible penalty, but other than that did well got on the ball and looked to make things happen. Great cross field pass to Noone in move that led to pen
Palace: 6. Not great on return from injury, but played a lovely reverse pass to Dicker that led to goal, leading 1-0 when subbed.
Barnsley: 8 very lively, decent goal and made things happen.
Cov: 8 again very good involved of all of Albion's best play
Derby: 6 best defensive performance but didn't get on the ball much. Praised by most on here for his performance that night
Burnley: 8 started very well, linked up well with Tanno and Lua Lua, unfortunate but understandable that he had to be subbed after sendings off
Reading: 6.5 decent first half, faded a bit after the break. Thinking the criticism of his passing on the day is ludicrous. Performed to a better level than many of the other players on the day.

I wonder how many of those who don't rate Ryan Harley were slagging off Alan Navarro and Adam El-Abd back when that was the popular thing to do. Bless.

Not me. Although actually my post was intended to be a bit more critical of Gus rather than Harley!
