I played 235 games and scored 35 goals in the Brighton league over 10 years so I know a bit about football.

Jarrett would have got an 8 if he had played more of the game and continued his encouraging performance from the first half.

I've never played a competitive game of football in my life - but I'm fairly confident when I say that it doesn't make one jot of difference to my ability to watch the game and understand what is going on - or in my ability to appreciate skill, commitment and effort when I see it.

Nicholas and Molango both showed all of these attributes - and for new members of the team, they also showed passion for the cause and joy at getting at least something out of the game.

If you can't see that and appreciate it - then more fool you!

Kuipers - 8 - A commanding display from the FDM. Two or three excellent saves. Now looks back to something approaching his best. Long may it continue.

Virgo - 7 - Still showing some difficulty adjusting to the pace of the Championship but some good passes and his goal was very well taken. I think the best is yet to come from Virgs.

Butters - 5- Sadly, Guy is already showing some signs of struggling at this level. Just hope that after his good performances last year he doesn't become a liability this season. The signs, however, are not good.

Cullip - 6 - Steadied the ship well in the second half but still too inclined to hoof the ball without looking up beforehand.

Mayo - 5.5 - Looked more comfortable at left back and a much improved display compared with Tuesday night. I remain to be convinced though that he is up to playing at Championship level.

Currie - 8.5 - Had an excellent game I thought. Passing, vision and general level of commitment was first class. It was great to see a Brighton player who looked comfortable in possession of the ball. If he can continue to play that well in future games he will be a major asset to the team this year. A fully fit Currie could be awesome.

Hinshelwood - 7 - A fiesty display full of energy, passion and enthusiasm. He should keep Charlie out of the side in my view but I don't suppose for one minute that he will!

Nicholas -7.5 - Didn't play as well as he did on Tuesday but is settling in and is showing some good touches. Should get better and better over the next few weeks as he gets more familiar with the abilities (and limitations) of his fellow players. Let's hope that we can keep him for the season.

Jarrett - 7 - The new Brooker. An exciting player with a great future. Has the skill and raw ability to do very well at this level and made several good runs yesterday. Again, the best is yet to come.

Molango - 7 - Run his heart out and showed several flashes of skill. First touch still leaves something to be desired but a promising prospect. It'll be interesting to see how he plays with Leon.

Robinson - 8 - Had a tremendous game given his age and relative inexperience. Holds the ball very well and is always looking to make something happen. Reminds me a little of Michael Owen and is an asset that the club should look to develop and keep rather than sell.

Jones - 4.5 - Not quite sure what we gained, if anything, when Jonesy was brought on. Seemed to run about a lot without achieving very much.

Hart - 4 - Very disappointing. Certainly not the Harty of old. I suspect we may not see much more of him in a Brighton shirt if he continues to play like that.

Kuipers 8 Commanding as always. Never dropped anything. Had no chance for the goal. Plays with a mastery Roberts can only dream of.

Virgo 6 The goal (hooray!) aside, he had a very mediocre match. I am not going to let rose-tinted specs get in the way of this.
Cullip 6
Butters 6 These two played as though they had only just met. Very uncharacterisitic. Thank God for Kuipers.
Mayo 7 - Solid. In reality, Harding should not get his place back, but do we know how McGhee's mind works.

Jarrett 7 Got to see a tricky winger in the mould of Paul brooker. Just needs an end product.
Nicolas 7 Pretty solid. Needs to be more solid though.
Hinshelwood 7 Good stuff from a fella playing out of position. That central midfield slot is far from certain for Chippy and Oatway.
Currie 7 Much better. Just make sure he keeps doing it, and he will win the crowd round.

Molango 6 Controls it further than I can kick it. Needs to put himself about more.
Robinson 8.5 Quality stuff from Mrs Robinson's boy. And only 17 as well. Regular in the squad / team from now on.

Jones 6.5 Solid, but doesn't have the balls that Jarrett has to take people on. And that stifled our forward play. That doesn't mean he had a bad game - cos he didn't.
Hart 6 Stick him on the wing, or play him up front with a big fella - but not INSTEAD of Molagno.

I cannot understand all the hype about Kuipers he made one good save up high in his LH top corner but the rest were all routine stops that you would expecta goalkeeper to make. He made one block with his feet but the ref had already signalled a fee kick to us.

Roberts will be back as soon as he is fit as he COMMANDS and dictates play in the penalty box aas opposed to MK who waits on his line to see what happens.

Absoltely right, BG. Yet again I agree with you! I accept that Kuipers is a good goalkeeper, but I think a lot of the hype is born from sentimentality. He's done well for us over the years and that invokes loyalty in some people.

I don't have a memory capable of remembering how each player did-points wise but I do agree with some of Zebedee's ratings however (now the memory has been helped).

I thought Kuipers looked like the Kuipers of old with the added bonus of a new found ability to kick long and straight. Top Marks for the coaching staff who taught him, and to Michel for wanting to improve.

Butters sadly looks a liability at this level; too slow, easily turned and hasn't a clue what to do when he has the ball. So many attacks from Coventry were instant responses to a Butters hoof.

Sadly, Cullip has the same distribution abilities as Butters. I can't remember which one of the 2 hoofed the ball upfield which led to an instant attack by Coventry which led to their goal. His play has become all too one-dimensional for me...win the ball & hoof anywhere. Becoming clearer why there hasn't been too much interest in him from other clubs (even with ex-Albion managers in charge). He's still a top man at the Albion though and I'd rather have him with us than against us.

I thought Mayo had quite a good game-certainly can't be faulted for his work-rate and commitment. He gets criticised a lot for his passing abilities but he does try and find another Albion player-doesn't always work but he tries.

As for Virgo? If he hadn't have scored there'd be endless posts about his defending. Needs to get his defenders head back on pretty sharpish imho.

Nicolas is starting to settle in and is beginning to understand this level of football (We've got a Cypriot International). He's still learning.

As is Molango and Albert.

I hate to say it but it is time for OGH to think about a new club. He is nowhere near the player we knew prior to his leg-break. Can't fault his effort but where the hell was he when needed down the line yesterday? Sorry Gary.

Currie needs to get fitter and faster-then he will be what we've been looking for for a few seasons.

Jake is definitely something for the future. Despite his size and weight he wasn't going to let himself get pushed around (one crunching tackle in the 2nd half showed that). He's going to be worth a few quid in the not too distant future.

McGhee Getting the hang of things in this division and will do much better with a fit squad and competition for all positions. He's been here before and left Millwall with a squad that reached the Cup Final-on a limited budget too so we'll be alright!

What about the one in the west goal, where he dived full length to his left and palmed it round the post?.The ref had already given us a free kick , but Michel didn't know that. I don't think Ben could saved it.
