Virgo 6 - solid, much better than Elphick
Tunnicliffe 6 - decent
Jimmy Mac 6 - continues to get better
Dicker 4 - not his best game, not a disgrace
Crofts 4 - he gets at least 3 of those points for the goal because he did f*** all else
Cox 5 - mediocre, not really noticeable
Dickinson 8 - our best player

This is an interesting one I think. For me, it was definitely a foul. There isn't even a doubt he was taken out. BUT it was way after he'd released the ball. He crossed it back towards Dickinson and then, a second or two later, some non-league thug hacked him down. So what's the right decision in that case? Can you give a foul even though the ball had been moved on and was already at somebody else's feet? It's almost like an off-the-ball incident totally unrelated to the play.

What you've described is a penalty.

Kuipers 6 - Did a decent job, hard to say whether or not on that performance he should be kept in the team.

Hoyte 4 - Utter toilet, he needs some serious positional training, always seems to be out of position.
Virgo 8 - Solid, made one outrageous tackles but did relatively well
Tunnicliffe 7 - Solid as well, dealt with everything he had to reasonably
McNulty 6 - Positionally wasn't brilliant but that will come with time.

Dicker 5 - Abysmal 1'st half, improved second half.
Crofts 6 - Much like Dicker but was combative as usual and broke up play well.
Cox 5 - Looked a bit lost but was ok

Dickinson 7 - Not good first half but improved and played much better second half
Murray 6 - Average, did all the basics well but we didn't create many chances for him
Forster 6 - Ditto to Murray.

All in all an ok performance, were through to the next round though so thats all that matters.:clap2:

penalty by any definition in the rule book
could forgive the ref who was following the ball but the lino saw it, hesitated then carried on rather than having the balls to raise his flag

ratings:
Kuipers 7 - he was ok but no more than that. I would have no concerns whoever keeps goal next week
McNulty 6 - contributed going forward and even took off his gloves for a throw in - not back to his best defensively
Hoyte 6 - not as bad as his critics say but needs to be more adventurous going forward and lucky today to be up against a pretty poor winger. if people get off his back he will improve. was getting a lot of abuse from their crowd on the terrace in the second half
Tunnicliffe 7 - if only he showed a bit more urgency but he can head the ball, tackle AND pass the ball rather than just kick it in the air
Virgo 7 - looked good until he got over excited and moved up to support the attack and then over to cover the right wing and a disastrous tackle that could easily have got him sent off
Dicker 7 - not his best but more good passes out wide than anyone else in midfield
Cox 7 - good cover of McNulty but drifted in and out and didn't get forward enough
Crofts 6 - scrappy but made two massive contributions so forgiven
Murray 7 - more involved than he often is but few chances and when he did get a shot in he scuffed it in the first half
Forster 8 - class act. should have had a penalty and contributed well out wide but less effective in the middle. playing 3 up front did not seem to suit him
Dickinson 8 - stood up in the second half and moved out wider to attack their defence. if he would stop falling over he would be so much more effective

Navarro 7 - played well when he came on and looked a class above the rest of midfield on the day

Kuipers 6 - Not an awful lot today but I think he did extremely well to keep out the well worked free kick at the end, saved alot of hassle with a replay!

Hoyte 3 - GET RID GET RID GET RID, UTTER SHITE.

Tunnicliffe 5 - Ok play all round, marked down for the moment of utter madness when Kuipers called the ball, he ran it into the right back position anyway and was pick pocketed and put us under real pressure.

Virgo 6 - Had a point to prove, did it well. One of the better centre back performances in a while.

McNulty 5 - Average.

Dicker 4 - Wow, didn't he have a poor game today. Dunno what's gone on there, hope it's a one off.

Crofts 5 - Better than Dicker but only just, say what you like about his performances but it's been a while since we had such a 'free scoring' if you can use that phrase, midfielder.

Cox 6 - Looking good at the moment, maybe him having a point to prove is a very positive thing as per Adam Virgo. Harshly substituted, looked more disappointed than angry.

Dickinson 7 - Man of the match for me, best work rate on the pitch in a game which was an utter dogfight. Managed to wind up the Torquay fans which seemed to spur him on even more, good for him.

Forster 5 - Average.

Murray 5 - Average.

Subs:

Navarro 5 - Average.

FDM 6: Did all he had to, communication should be better though.
Hoyte 5: Good link up play going forward, seems to panic under pressure
Virgo 7: Looked very solid, won a lot in the air, some excellent last ditch tackles in the box but booking showed his weakness
Tunni 6: Again good in the air, gave their strikers a yard too much to turn
McNulty 6: Couple of good crosses, doesn't look comfortable when someone is running at him.
Dicker 5: Struggled to impose himself on the game
Crofts 6: Took goal well, busy but not very effective
Cox 6: Showed glimpses in the first half of his creativity but disappeared for long periods
Dickinson 7.5: Looked very lively and dangerous when cutting in from the flanks, some excellent link up work with the other forwards and tracked back regularly
Murray 6: Lots of flicks and touches but not a lot in the box apart from one left footed shot in the first half
Forster 6: Canny when on the ball but not very effective overall

Kuipers - 7 - made his hollywood save, straight at him really.
McNulty - 2 - Can we get a left back that can defend please?
Virgo - 8 - superb, apart from late booking
Tunnicliffe - 5 - all over the shop, some good moments though
Hoyte - 2 - Can we get a right back that can defend please?
Dicker - 2 - not sure how he stayed on, gave the ball away every time
Crofts - 6 - quiet game, super goal
Cox - 5 - looked good on the ball, but didnt get involved enough really
Dickinson - 7 - best of the forwards, but his good work was all out wide
Murray - 5 - no service, held ball up well at times though.
Forster - 4 - an off day, but an old man isn't really up to two games in a week.

Navarro - 7 - came on, balanced the midfield, sensible in posession - no surprise to see him change the game but for NSC to completely miss his contribution as they can't accept that he's actually not that bad. Idiots.

Virgo averaging 7 in this thread so far and coming in just behind Dickinson for MoM.

Hopefully not a flash in the pan for Adam and Dickinson starting to be consistently good under Gus. Interesting.

For the first time in a long long time i agree 100% with what you say, game changed when he came on but no ones even bothered to include him in the ratings except for two who both give him among the most points, i reckon he will start next game

Agreed about Navarro making a difference although I'm not convinced it had a bearing on the result. Crofts and particularly Dicker were poor all game with distribution being a problem, but to be fair this was quite a lot to do with the pitch and the conditions. Their midfielders, particularly Tyrone Thompson looked even worse.

I don't think people have given Poyet enough credit for the formation, 3 up front was very bold but also very sensible on a pitch where simple passing was always likely to be difficult. Hence getting it forward quickly was a clever ploy.

With Cox as one of 3 midfielders this made it even more bold but actually when Navarro came on it gave us better shape and more disciplined and simple distribution to the front men.

What was also interesting to see was their wide player (also called Thompson) who regularly received the ball in dangerous positions (due to us only having 3 in midfield) but made very little use of it in terms of final product. Made me think how li=ucky we are to have Bennett who appears to have a lot of skill, a lot of hard work and an end product.

Hoyte is an absolute liability at the back. I've said it before and i'll say it again, his positional play is absolutely abysmal. Yes we kept a clean sheet in 2 of our last 3 games with him at right back but you only have to look at the teams we were playing in those 2 games.
