Probably quite lucky to come away with all three points. Posh were good and if they'd had their shooting boots on they could have scored a couple. But we did hit the post.

Ankergren 8. Did everything well. Confident ball handling.
Calderon 8. A good game apart from a couple of misplaced passes.
Greer 9. MOM. Strong in defense, but like Calderon a couple of misplaced balls.
Dunk 8. Did pretty much everything right.
Painter 6. Worried me too frequently, but a couple of well timed tackles.
Bridcutt 8. Another solid game.
Harley 8. Superb goal and a good game.
Dicker 8. Strong game. Only gave the ball away once.
Noone 9. Excellent goal and ran the Posh defense ragged. Could have released the ball a bit quicker on a couple of occasions.
Barnes 7. Great at holding up the ball, but on a few occasions his anticipation of passes wasn't all it could have been.
CMS 7. Not really his day today. Did not see enough of the ball.

Subs:
Sparrow 8. Slotted in perfectly.
Navarro 8. Looked strong.
LuaLua. Cameo

Would not disagree too much except the ratings of Calderon and Painter. Calderon got beaten pretty much every time today - defensively he was poor I thought. I would give Painter a 7 and Calderon a 6.

Agree with most of the above apart from Painter getting a 6. I also think the ref was very good today.

As above but

Calderon 7 - easily turned and often exposed but often had nobody in front of him
Bridcutt 9 - battled and won everything .... was marginally my MOM ahead of Noone and Greer
Dicker 8 - I reckon he gave the ball away 3/4 times but his distribution was as good as I've seen this season so agree the high score

I think the marks are a bit high today. Wasn't a great performance, but in fairness the team worked so hard on Tuesday it was inevitable.

Ankergren - 7 - Handled the ball well

Calderon - 6 - Not at his best.
Painter - 7 - Steady and got forward well.
Dunk - 7 - Some important tackles and blocks
Greer - 6 - A little bit indecisive at times

Dicker - 7 - A bit in and out, but more good than bad
Harley - 7 - Creative throughout, at times too many touches, but what a goal!
Noone - 8 - Dangerous throughout
Bridcutt - 7 - Again steady, but tired towards end of game.

Barnes - 6 - SLightly quiet
Mackail-SMith - 6 - Also quiet by his extremely high standards

Navarro - 6 - Looked weaker when he came on and we started to sit back too deep.
Sparrow - 6- Never really got into the game
Lua-Lua - not on long enough

Workmanlike, but we're still top - just incredible!!

Great post. :clap2: Spot on (except I'd raise Greer to a 7).

Not sure how Ankergren has come out so highly. His distribution was poor today and he gave away possession far too often which might explain why Peterborough had so much in the middle third of the pitch.

I think P'boro learnt a few lessons from their drubbing at home last season, ie the way we play the ball out from the back and dominate. They made this much more difficult.

They obviously know how hard CMS works to harrass defenders so they didn't really play it around at the back themselves and took him out of game to large extent, credit to them for that.

Ankergren's distribution wasn't the best at times but he made some important saves and looked pretty solid I thought.

Agree with all the ratings except for Painter, although he wasn't at this best he was still a strong 7.

Thank christ for that. I thought I was the only one who was worried by Painter's lack of pace & vulnerability.
I'm very concerned some pacey right wingers will destroy him this season, leading to preventable defeats.
Bizarrely, the Argus ratings and accompanying narrative today rated him highly.

Don't really agree with that although happy enough with the player ratings. The reason they didn't score is because we restricted them to speculative efforts from well outside the box. They couldn't break us down and the odd occasion they did hold possession Barnes dropped back to help out the midfield. Their defending was extremely poor for the first goal an while it was a great strike from Noone he did exactly what you'd expect a half decent offensive player to do and get it on target. Although Boro worked hard they didn't have any spark about them and played far to narrowly. Without Boyd they looked totally without threat tbh. On that display I think they'll go down. Not bottom but not far from it I think.

Thought Painter was good on Saturday, a definite seven - their full back was a tricky rangy sod! That said his one pace has been a worry in other games and no doubt will be again, a shame to say. Could do with a full back with a bit more speed and with slightly quicker thought and feet when up the other end of the pitch. Don't like saying this because Painter is still an excellent player and we wouldn't have won the title last season without him... perhaps someone need to compete with him at full back depending on the tactics of the day and how much he will be required to exploit space up top of the pitch.

In general:

Ankergren 7 solid but sometimes closed down quickly. not really his fault actually as Posh were very canny about our tactics... ok 8 he made some SOLID saves!!
Calderon 7 thought he did ok, looked tired after about 60 minutes. perhaps got beaten more than we like but still there to clear his line when it mattered!
Painter 7 Solid, played well and some excellent tackles. Decent work up top too.
Greer 8 Don't see how he has been rated lower than 7 by anyone. Good performance and part of a defense that stood firm against an absolute tide of Posh pressure
Dunk 8 Excellent
Bridcutt 8 Excellent
Dicker 7 Good game, looked more comfortable and less dawdling thinking about the perfect pass - perhaps the arrival of Harley actually frees his mind from that 'responsibility' and allows him (in his own mind!) to play it simple and quick more often? Some great passes.
Harley 7... ok 8 for the fantastic goal! Sometimes a touch too many but I think he'll work that kink out of his game for us. Some rather arrogant body language when we were 2-0 up... not sure how i feel about it, i think it loses a player a touch of urgency. if it affects his game then i'm sure gus will sort it.
Noone 9 Fantastic and a great goal. Just superb!! Even if occasionally... just occasionally... that ball gets stuck under his feet!! even then, admittedly, he normally works out a way to use it to his advantage!
Barnes 6 A shame he missed his early chance. Think it dented his confidence leading to an early pass in a moment on the counter when he might otherwise have made a bit more of the chance (in the second half, 2 on 2 at the time i think)
CMS 6 Seemed to put in the usual effort but to less effect. Posh knew how to mark him. Are the conspiracy theorists right in thinking he didn't have his usual conviction for his late headed chance? Who knows, I'm sure he'll be back on the goal trail soon anyway.

Gus / Tactics - 9 perfect as far as i can see, against a side brimming with attacking confidence. we played our way and won. was it comfortable? in one sense yes - we were winning for most of the match and had a cushion of 2 by the time Boro really put us under siege. in a way i was really pleased to see us in siege mode - it might have had its hairy moments but for the best part we stood VERY firm. GREAT clean sheet.

Day out - 10. f***ing AMAZING as ever.

sunday the next day - even BETTER as my nephew was born!!! A future Albion fan I can assure you! Born under a rising albion star! (the opposite of me in june 83...) So all in all a great time to be ALBION!!! :albion2: (and an uncle!)
