Had this discussion last week.

Industry standard and also, widely used in professional teams (certainly youth teams in 80’s).

Players were rated out of 5 in each half, with 3 considered average.

What professional team puts player ratings on their own players?

Despite reputation for long ball Burnley played well. Must help that Vydra playing and not Wood. They did homework by stopping wingbacks getting forward and stopping Bissouma. Despite under cosh pleased we were looking for breaks to score winner but lacked natural wide player

Sanchez 9 As busy as he has ever been since debut and dealt with it so well. Also commanded box
Veltman 7 Did OK
White 7 Lucky have marked up all CBs by 1 just for number of blocks Barnes and Vydra were very good but allowed to much of ball in box but fact is they saved us on many occasions
Dunk 7 As above
Webster 7 As above
Burn 4 Very poor Burnley did homework and focused on attacking that side.
Gross 6 Average. To be fair Bissouma has helped midfielders by winning ball and giving it to them. Just didnt happen today
Bissouma 4 Suppose was due poor game couldnt get much poorer then today. Just didnt get into game
McCalister 6 Best of poor midfield
Maupay 5 Contributed little Last 4/5 games had Trossard pulling defenders out and midfield supporting. Didnt happen today.
Connelly 4 Just looked out of depth and why doesnt he stay on his feet. Instead of just looking for through or over the top balls if he is going to make it must vary his game. Why doesnt he move across line ( like Vydra did ) to try and pull defenders out of position

Our back 3 will be players of the season (possibly 4 by May with Sanchez). Another solid 8 out of 10. The rest a pretty average 6. Good point. Need to re-energise.

Personally I thought Connolly and Vydra were two most threatening attacking players on pitch.

Surprised by the low scores for Maupay his pressing at top of the field was one of the reasons we were better in the first half. He does a good job at it although would personally I would prefer to see him in teh box more.

Criticism of Connolly for be wasteful - the second run on goal in 2nd half yes but first one he had every right to go for.

Sanchez made some very good saves and one could (very harshly) argue he should push it round the post for their goal a) he saw it late and there appears to be a deflection b) he has knocked the ball lout 18 yards and the shot goes through 3 Brighton players who don't get a block to it.

Overall team looked tired , not surprisingly, and certainly some rough stuff tackles on Maupay, Connolly and Mac Alister not good for them.

Thought Lallana looked as good as anybody outfield for us after he came on. Generally looked pretty tired today and delighted with a hard fought point. Big changes for Wednesday please. All the subs to play hopefully, including Walton. Desperately need to rest White, Bissouma, Groß, Dunk in particular.

Sanchez - 8 MOM I'm not blaming him for the goal, he only had a split second to react, and his bravery saved us on a number of occasions today.

White - 7 Had one of his best games today, he's maturing like a fine wine.
Dunk - 8 Superb today, can't remember an error, and great header for the goal.
Webster - 7 Another calm display. Vydra was a real handful today, but all 3 centre backs kept him at bay.

Veltman - 6 Surprised he looked so weary considering he didn't play on Wednesday, but did ok.
Bissouma - 5.5 Game passed him by today. Looked more tired than anyone.
Gross - 5.5 Burnley nullified him today, couldn't get in the game. Needs a rest.
Burn - 6 Decent 1st half, looked exposed in 2nd half.

Mac Allister - 6.5 Pick of our midfielders, but that's not saying much. Great workrate yet again, but no end product to show for it.
Maupay - 6 Works so hard for the team, but nothing he did looked dangerous.
Connolly - 6 Looked the most likely player to score from open play, but mostly because he wouldn't pass to anyone else!

Trossard - 6 We kept the ball better and longer with Tross on, but not long enough to trouble Burnley.
Welbeck - 5 Can't help thinking he's not overly bothered. Did ok, but doesn't inspire. Hopefully the minutes will do him good.
Lallana - 6.5 We definitely looked better with him on.

Sanchez 9 - had a lot to do and did it well, distribution was also good as pretty much every kick reached the area were Burn expected them to come. Man of the match.

Veltman 7 - good first half and pretty solid in defense.
White 7 - not as busy as Dunk & Webster, but had a decent game and participated in a couple of attacks.
Dunk 8 - struggled in some duels where he perhaps shouldnt have struggled but made up for it with a bunch of interceptions, blocks and won headers. Nice goal.
Webster 8 - Dyche obviously told his players to play the ball in the area between Web and Burn, forcing BDB to defend with his right foot and Webster with his left, but Webster did very well to deal with this. Close to a 9.
Burn 6 - Burnley really wanted to abuse him and did so a couple of times, generally he coped ok though.

Gross 6 - not really his day but a couple of nice corners and slick through balls saves him from the 5.
Bissouma 5 - worst performance of the season, seemed like he was a bit tired in both body and head allowing the Burnley midfield to do pretty much as they pleased. Looked better when Lallana came on to help the midfield.
Mac Allister 6 - didnt achieve much (if anything) in attack but thought he was the busiest of the midfielders defensively and really took the fight with Burnley, cant moan too much about him not creating anything as they were all over him.

Connolly 7 - created quite a lot despite not much service, surprised to see him come off but maybe he just isnt ready to do 90 yet, just returning from his injury.
Maupay 7 - no real chances but good defensive effort and link up play, did look a bit tired in the second half and taking him off was probably the right decision.

Welbeck 4 - just five ball touches, when you come on as the most "rested" player in the team you'd expect him to make a few challenging runs, drop down and participate in the game or just put some pressure on opposing players but he pretty much just stood next to Tarkowski & Mee. I expect more from someone with his experience.
Trossard 6 - tried, maybe too hard, some things but didnt really get into the game.
Lallana 7 - looked eager to play and helped take back control of the game, unfortunately there was too little movement around him to make use of his abilities.

Excellent summary, this.

I wish to be associated with these ratings, except for two small changes:

White, up to 8. Deserves to be marked at least on par with the other CBs. Performed well at the back, then in midfield, then back to CB. And the one magnificent saving tackle, itself deserves the extra point.

Lallana, up to 8. Completely changed the game. Burnley were completely dominating the ball, and a winning goal seemed inevitable, before AL totally changed the balance. Great performance, and one that I think some Albion fans did not know to expect. A lot thought we’d see the best of AL’s talents in games that we were dominating.

Good summary, although wouldn’t agree re Sanchez’ distribution - interested to see the stats but seemed to me that almost all of his long kicks went to no-one, or the Burnley defence. Not blaming him for the goal, saw the shot very late and got a good parry on it.

Lallana is such an asset, really clever player. We looked so much sounder when he came on.

Sanchez 7: Generally a decent game, made some good saves. A couple of errors were thrown in to which knocks off a mark. We've had a good look at him now and for the most part I like what I see. He's a very positive keeper. That positivity will lead to mistakes but the kind of mistakes I don't mind, namely mistakes where he's trying to positively affect the game rather than one's where he's avoiding doing something.

White 7.5: Solid.

Dunk 7.5: Got done by Vydra a couple of times in the first 20 minutes but got better nd better as the game wore on. Great header for the goal.

Webster 7.5: Solid again. Hope his injury is nothing that won't be fixed by a few days rest.

Veltman 6: Struggled a little more than usual.

Bissouma 6: Looked tired. Didn't have much impact. Looked better after we went to a back four and he dropped deeper.

Gross 6: Looked dead on his feet by the end. A few moment s of quality.

Burn 6: Struggled at times against Lowton. Looked better when we went to a back four.

Ally Mac 6: Game, got a couple of nasty whacks. Not really a game for his skills but good to see him putting in the donkey work.

Maupay 6: Worked hard as ever.

Connolly 6: Looked bright at times. I'm confident we would have won if his shot in the first half had gone in.

Subs:

Trossard 6.5: Looked lively, kept the ball well.

Welbeck 5: Barely noticed him. Been out a while so hope it was just rustiness.

Lallana 6.5: Another positive substitution. Helped us keep and move the ball.

Overall we looked really leggy which is understandable. We really struggled to stay in it when Burnley upped the tempo and work rate in the second half so a very creditable point. I reckon we would have lost that pre Wolves.

This but I'd have Dunk a 7.

Thought Vydra was very good for them and Dunk struggled to handle him.

It was so noticeable how much calmer and controlled we were when Lallana came on.An experienced head to calm the young players as the game got more difficult. It would be great if he stays fit enough to start this kind of game to exert control. (e.g. West Brom)

Bissouma's performance seems to divide opinion on here. My gripe was that he stopped tracking players back in the second half. Watch their goal again and he has completely switched off and realises too late that there's a man unmarked. He looked mentally as well as physically tired. He has been epic in the last few weeks so let's hope he is back to his commanding best after a rest in midweek.
