Player ratings v SCUNNY

Well, every report I've seen says he played well, so I think it's you are the one who are heroically out of step with your mark of 5 - bravo

No LI you are the one out of step with your mark of 8!
If Mr Mayo was so good how come he was subbed? Mr Whing the opposite fullback stayed on for the full ninety minutes. Mayo was his usual self, made unforced errors and when attacking gave us few options with his crossing.

So a player has only played a good game if he has stayed on for the full 90 minutes?

Interesting...

Well he wasn't injured and he didn't looked tired to me, but you do have a point. It doesn't mean if he has been subbed that he had a bad game. But to me, at Scunthorpe Mayo didn't look that good, he was the same as he has been for the majority of this season, below average.
I know this game is all about opinions but I really struggle to agree with LI's assessment of Mayo in this game. His other points on the rest of the team I agree with, but Mayo, no way!

Because Wilkins obviously wanted Lynch's fresh legs on for the last bit of the game.

Are you implying that it was because Mayo was playing badly then?

If you genuinely believe that, then presumably Wilkins will start with Lynch at LB against Northampton, would that be fair to say?

We'll find on Saturday, won't we? :)

How did Dick Knight miss the opportunity of making YOU manager?

Surely,if you'd applied you would've got it

Perhaps LI should start a poll for those who went on Saturday, to see if his assessment of Mayo as MOM is held by others.

I never said he was bad, apart from the mistake in the first few minutes when he passed the ball to a Scunny forward and the comedy corner. But as others have said, he did not support the attack in the way that Whing did, and distribution was fair, but nothing exciting.

Weird one Mayo, he seems to come into the side and look good for a couple of games then it all goes to shit. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.....

I thought Mayo had a solid game at left back, IMHO his best game this season. Was subbed for Lynch, so as to provide more height when we were defending corners.

Why was Mayo below average? He defended well, the scunny goal came from an attack on there left (our right) so cant be blamed for the goal. I thought our back 4 played very well against a lively Scunthorpe attack.

Still poor old Kerry will get 5 or below from some people just because they think Rents or Lynch should be starting in that position.

Agreed. Plus LI knows nothing about football so his judgement can be immediately dismissed.

Right thats OK then :nono: I will revise my opinion of how Mayo played. He was clearly the worst player on the pitch and should have been subbed after 30 seconds because hes rubbish!

For me part of a fullback's job is to support the attack with decent crossing something that Mayo did not do. I haven't marked Mayo yet in the game, I was just disagreeing with LI's assessment that Mayo was worth an 8 and was man of the match. One thing I will give Mayo is that he puts the effort in, he always tries.
I would give Mayo a 6 for the Scunny game.
I personally would have given MOTM to either Whing or Revell.

I listened to the match on SCR and both Hawsey and Lloydy gave Mayo plenty of praise throughout the game and gave him plenty of kudos when he was substituted (for the height of Lynch as another poster highlighted).

Summing the SCR team up, I would have said that their 1,2,3 was Revell, Whing, Mayo (in that order)

Like I say though - I wasn't there so have to rely on what I'm hearing...

I have never said that Kezza had a poor game. To me a 5 is representative of an average performance (given that it is half of 10). He did okay, but Scunny played the ball through the middle rather than down the right, and so he did not have a lot to do.

For a 1,2,3 I would have gone Revell, Whing, Butters. Both centre halves played well against two very good strikers in Keogh and Sharp, and when Torpey and Crosby went up front too they were magnificent.

5? ???

And start a poll if you like, you know full well the many Mayo antis on here who were never at the game would win it for you, again bravo

Just a shame that, like Charlie before him, people can't give the guy a break when he plays well.

For the record, Mayo's rating in the NOTW was 5, which was the lowest by an Albion player. Fact.
