I think the treatment of Le Tisser is indicative of how English football treats its more talented players. Look at Euro 2004, Dyer and Joe Cole, two of our most talented and skillful players...not player. Le Tisser, Stan Bowles, Alan Hudson, Rodney Marsh...all genius', all hardly capper. Compare this to the caps that have been chucked at Heskey, Carlton Palmer, Phil Neville and the like and there is the problem with English football.

Our players get picked because of what they do for their clubs, then get told they cannot do them in England games and are forced in to rigid defensive formations...they then play crap and the managers have an excuse to drop them and not pick them again.

imho tis was not good enough for england. the season when every body was calling for his inclusion in the squad, he did score a few cracking goals but it is also a not very well known fact, that during that season he did not assist 1 goal. which is not very good for a midfielder i think you will agree.???

and joe cole well if he could pass a ball or score a goal or have any end product to his immense skill, he would have been in the team a while ago.
he is probably one of the most skillfull players to have come from england. and when he learns to use his skill properly then he will be a 1st choice midfielder for england.

have to issue with two of the given examples, Smith and Rooney. firstly Rooney hasnt actually gone anywhere yet, so its a bit judgmental. however, *if* he where to go, the fee banded about of 30million could do alot for Everton, more than Rooney staying. In todays market that'd buy you have a 6 quality players, which for a currently mediocre team like Everton could put them into to europe, or at least have a chance).

As for Smith leaving Leeds, i feel it was a case of either he went or they'd be no club, so its not far to brand him as disloyal. He was put up for sale.

did player loyalty ever realy exist . what about the clubs that discard players after a few years just because they dont fit with a new manager, they've had a bad season or the club wants to cash in on them.

That may be the case, but by saying "I'll only sign for ManUre" he prevented a bidding war, which would have done much for Leeds' coffers. Of course, by making sure ManUre didn't have to pay too much for him, more money was freed up for his wages. Bet he (or his agent) never thought of that, did they?

The same can be said, of course, for Beckham's "I'll only sign for Real".

Their only loyalty is to how much more they can earn.
If you were offered more elsewhere you'd go too !!
Fans remain forever loyal, the mugs that we are !!

Incredigull...I think you are wrong. If I played for Brighton but was offered a few more thousand a week to play for, say West Ham, I would not go.

Smith did not have to chose Man Utd did he? I was not attacking the fact that he left, more the choice of club.

Most ,if not all,on here would have loved the chance to play for BHA,but sadly haven't.
Zamora is a West Ham fan from childhood and thought he'd got the right move when he ended up there. He left us for more money and a stab at the Prem, but failed.
All footballers now want more money, faster cars and women to match, so move at the first opportunity !!
All this badge kissing is bollocks and as false as Pam Andersons chest !

I fully understand why Zamora left us amnd why he later joined West ham, I was just using that as example of a team who are a bit better then us..not iluding to Bobby's transfer there.

The point I was making originally was not that people should not move on to new clubs, but that they could chose the clubs better when bearing in mind the relationship they had with the fans of the club they are leaving..i.e. Smith to Man Utd, Campbel to Arsenal.

Alan Smith, and the same can be said of Sol Campbell, may not have wanted to move house, live in a new area/country etc etc. He hardly seems the type to pick up Spanish very easily.

Where else could he have gone? Sheffield United? Barnsley? Doncaster? Leeds probably hate teams like Liverpool just as much.

I doubt any Leeds fan hate Liverpool as much as Man Utd. I just thought that it was a bit of a kick in the teeth. One week he is lapping up the accolades, kissing the badge and going on about being Leeds through and through and the next he says he will only 'sign for Man Utd' and thus forcing the clubs card and making them sell him to them. Double standards in my book.
