Why does Duck Billed Platini whinge about everything "revolving around the English", just because a Scot moans about the Europa Cup (the Euopean equivalent to the Johnsons Paint Trophy)?

BBC Sport - Michel Platini criticises Sir Alex Ferguson's Europa League comments

Does UEFA hate the English also too as well as FIFA, Sarkozy, Merkel and everyone else?

'I like England a lot, it's football is fantastic, it's supporters are wonderful but you shouldn't criticise the Europa League just because you've played in three Champions League finals,' said Platini

He's right.

I must admit, I didn't read his quote.

I agree with you, he is right, but I still stand by my previous post.......

I heard this a lot today, as I spent a lot of time in the car with 5Live and I really don't understand what the hell he is getting at.

Platini said: "The world does not revolve around England. The Europa League is a brilliant competition."

Why on Earth, when Fergie expresses some unhappiness about the Europa League, has it got anything to do with England or the English? If he's said "Manchester United" instead of "England" then fair enough. But he didn't. And you can get your bottom Euro that the like or Real and Barcelona would also be a bit miffed if they had to make do with the Europa League. All deserved and self-inflicted, of course, but nothing to do with England.

The Europa Cup only has this reputation in England. Mainly because the likes of Ferguson have consistently peddled the line that it can't be any good, because Manchester United aren't in it.

Never forget Platini was one of the most gifted European players ever, that semi-final v Portugal in the Euros in 1984 was epic and he was one of the greatest players of his era.

Indeed.

But what the devil has that got to do with his inane utterances today?

Platini wanted to outlaw tackling at one point, so he's always going to be jaundiced against the English game, the f***ing nause

what platini really wants to say is,players in the premier league (not just english) are overpaid tossers

and he's spot on

still prefered the old format european cup (for league winners only)

cup winner's cup (gives domestic cup comps some recognition)

uefa cup (teams that are rewarded for doing well in the league)

if it ain't broken, don't fix it
