Why are Russian teams and Russia allowed to play on a plastic pitch yet South American teams are not allowed to play at altitude? Fifa claim it gives the likes of Bolivia an unfair advantage, surely playing on a plastic pitch gives just an advantage to the Russians?

Red Bull Salzburg have used one here for a few years now and are allowed to use it in European games.
When you compare their home and away records, there is no doubt that having a plastic pitch is a massive advantage for them.
Not in favour personally but would a Russian grass pitch be any better in late autumn/early spring?

Of course pitches have moved on in recent years (you'd hope) but I was at Oldham in the rain in the 80's and that pitch won it for them. Was 2-1 in the end I think, might have been an FA Cup game?? Oldham just lumped the ball over the top of our defenders and ran past them because they couldn't turn on the surface. Ball skidded on and they were onto the goalie. Shocking game of football.
Every side playing in the Champions League, and every international side, has access to train on identical 3G pitches, so it really isn't a big deal.
I'm sure Ferguson would far rather play on it, than have his precious superstars risk injury on a rock hard grass pitch.
