I am as big a Murray fan as you, but six goals last season makes me wonder if perhaps he isn't quite as good as I believed him to be.

Agree that the competition for places for the front five (back four and Bridcutt are certs surely) will be fascinating.
From what I saw of him at Falmer, he still is good enough. I still think he was the missing link last season. But I think Poyet and Bloom failed with there marque signing, and ironicly went to plan B in the transfer market, and I think the idea of signing a target man has passed. After yesterdays dealings, I believe we now have a squad capable of making and maintaining a promotion push, certainly play offs. I still however am not convinced we have the right manager, but time will tell. If nothing else, he's got us a decent squad, far better than last year when only his inability to end a bad run of results in a few games cost us a play off spot.

I started to read it, but got hung up on the fact our style, our plan A didn't really fail v cardiff or Hull, our finishing did. If we're getting 18 and 16 shots in each game, and not converting them, how does lumping it forward (or any plan B) make our finishing more successful?

Now I've read it all, I will say I agree with the main point of it. It is essentially what my argument has been when people have questioned our system. There's nothing inheently wrong with it, we just need better players, more experienced players, or to give current players the time to grow with it and improve through experience. We weren't challenged enough in the system in league one, so didn't have the chance to learn and improve, we were challenged in it last season, and this season we will see players improve, and now we've bought better players which will also help.

I think we also have to accept some days no number of plans will work. Some days too many players will have off days, or opponents will have particularly great games, momentum will be with them, or they may just be better than us and we will just have to accept no system or team is unbeatable and not blame a system that is shown to work so often.
