As I've mentioned before, I've only invaded a pitch on one occasion. Okay, two. Actually it was three, errr. All of it was accidental...

But on none of those occasions when I found myself on pitch did I goad players or even go up to them or the opposition fans.

My concerns when I see this stuff at the moment (I seem to remember issues at MIddlesbrough for us a few years back- Steve Sidwell ?) is that a player, of either side, is going to get hurt.

Tonight fans of Walsall invaded the pitch after their last goal with smoke bombs etc. The Chesterfield manager refused to let his players back on, clearly wanting the ref to just call it there and let Walsall have the match as they had clearly won. My thoughts were to gather his players close to the tunnel, get one to kick off and hand the ball to Walsall to kick around for a couple of minutes. After a few minutes that's pretty much almost what they did.

No players should have to fear for their safety, but unfortunately what should be a benign celebration is becoming dangerous these days. I'd hate to be an opposition player in this situation- especially a grudge match.

I think the idiots have really made it time to put a stop to it.

So as a regular pitch invader you now condem it ? Good stuff.

That is NOT a spear tackle. It's a perfectly legitimate move. The steward has hold of the fan and supports his weight to the ground. The only problem is he may have had a penalty awarded against him for not releasing.

Oh, sorry. Wrong sport.
