CMD has consistently defended Coulson, even while the evidence was stacking up, so he has got egg on his face. But I think that saying this calls into question Cameron's judgment is a bit silly. It will be forgotten in a couple of weeks.

Of course it will damage him because he has defended someone whilst the evidence has been stacking up against him. It won't topple him or the coalition but it will seriously hit his credibility. He employed him after the original case, that led to a reporter and I think a private detective serving time, came to light.

However, I wonder what the situation would be like if anything else came to light, for example, why would you employ someone as you communications advisor when you know there are serious suggestions they have experience of phone tapping. A skill that might come in useful whilst fighting a general election!!! Notwithstanding that it was a link with the mighty News Corporation and the host of benefits that support from them would give the Tories.

If Coulson gets charged with a crime - that might well damage CMD - but I do think this will have no effect on Cameron at all.

What is sneaky is resigning on the day when Blair is in front of the Chilcott enquiry so burying the news a bit. That's the way to do it, spinning till the end.

Out of interest, what exactly has the ex NOTW editor Andy Coulson been found guilty of in a court of law regarding this matter?

If someone has an allegation made against them, should that make them automatically guilty and unable to work anywhere regardless of where they worked or for whom? regardless of whether that allegation is true or not

People accused Tony Blair of War Crimes, should he have been forced out of office as a result despite never facing a criminal trial?
John Prescott punched someone in the build up to an election, should he have been banned from being in work because he could have faced a charge of assult? etc...

The whole 'this calls into question Cameron's judgment' talk is just yet the latest example of political points scoring and has nothing to do with benefitting the country etc but just trying to look good for the electorate and become more electable. If only the political parties could just focus on helping the country rather than attacking each other over minor, petty issues then this country would be in a better state than it is now

Blimey, who would have thought that wholesale illegal wiretapping was a minor petty issue or is that just a bit of rather desperate right-wing spin?

I take it that you have no problem then with CMD's judgement. Fair enough but I suspect an awful lot of others do, from both sides of the political persuasion. Whether he gets charged or not, well let's just wait and see. As for Blair, again lets wait for the outcome of the inquiry although I doubt it will declare it an illegal war. As for Prestcott, should have been charged but don't forget he was attacked first.

Looks like your mate Cameron has had a lucky escape, since his press officer has the sense to resign weeks ago.

I suspect Cameron is glad that Libya and Ivory Coast are distracting the media at the moment. Even though NotW have admitted liability, this is probably still the tip of the iceberg. It remains to be seen whether the Police release details to all the potential victims and whether or not it is proved that this was happening across the newspaper industry or just restricted to NotW, which I very much doubt.

Cameron's association with Poulson will rear it's ugly head again particularly bearing in mind the support that Poulson's former employers gave CMD!!!!

Watch this space.
