Played for Watford and wasn’t favoured

He couldn’t get a work permit. By the time he qualified for one they’d been relegated and he’d attracted a team who had just finished 5th in La Liga.

Weird definition of “wasn’t favoured” you’ve got there

17M euro fee according to this source. Which would be a f***ing robbery

Serious question. Who's robbing whom? Are we getting a fine player for a bargain price or are his club getting a huge fee for an average player?

Dude starts for Ecuador, is only 24 years old, plays for a very good team in Villareal, and has a good amount of Champion's League experience and will want to be in good form for Qatar this November. I see no negatives with this whatsoever.

Just reading the Watford club website article about him leaving. This quote is bizarre (not to mention the fact they refer to themselves as the 'Golden Boys')

“As [Head Coach] Vladimir [Ivić] has said repeatedly over the past week or so, having a squad of players 100 per cent committed to our challenge is imperative,” said Hornets’ Chairman & CEO Scott Duxbury.

“Continued player trading – incoming as well as outgoing – is inevitable over the course of the next month or so, given the shortened pre-season timescales this summer.

“But that doesn’t mean our focus will be distracted. Building a fully committed squad of players is of the utmost importance.”

He demanded to leave as he only had a year left on his contract and didn’t want to play in the championship. Not sure Watford were overly pleased.

Here it is on HITC:

https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2022/08/...on-beating-tottenham-to-electric-14m-signing/

It even suggests we might have improved on the position despite losing Cucurella.........Blimey.

How reliable is that site?

They've got us paying 14m for him.

Wikipedia says Villarreal paid 15m for him. They were champions league semi finalists last season. Why would they sell a regular starter for less than they paid for him?

Ishis contract runing out? Are they in financial difficulty?

Edit: apparently he signed a 7 year contract in 2020...

So, financial difficulties for Villarreal?

Due to La Ligas very strict financial fair play rules, they have to sell players in order to buy new ones. And since they have another good left back in the team already while they want to strengthen other areas, he would likely be quite cheap.
