He demanded to leave as he only had a year left on his contract and didn’t want to play in the championship. Not sure Watford were overly pleased.Just reading the Watford club website article about him leaving. This quote is bizarre (not to mention the fact they refer to themselves as the 'Golden Boys')
“As [Head Coach] Vladimir [Ivić] has said repeatedly over the past week or so, having a squad of players 100 per cent committed to our challenge is imperative,” said Hornets’ Chairman & CEO Scott Duxbury.
“Continued player trading – incoming as well as outgoing – is inevitable over the course of the next month or so, given the shortened pre-season timescales this summer.
“But that doesn’t mean our focus will be distracted. Building a fully committed squad of players is of the utmost importance.”

They've got us paying 14m for him.
Wikipedia says Villarreal paid 15m for him. They were champions league semi finalists last season. Why would they sell a regular starter for less than they paid for him?
Ishis contract runing out? Are they in financial difficulty?
Edit: apparently he signed a 7 year contract in 2020...
So, financial difficulties for Villarreal?
