over priced /over rated ???

Yes and yes. They've obviously set themselves in direct competition with the likes of Fred Perry but the few items of Penguin I've owned in the past have not been of good quality. I've got polo shirts from Paul Smith and Fred Perry and even when they've faded have kept their shape very well. Penguin items look very bad after just a few washes.

I see you were looking at coats but if you fork out a couple of hundred on a coat you expect it to last and I share your view on the longevity of their clobber. With coats I always think it's worth shelling out a bit more because you can go for the classic look that always stays in and you are guaranteed a few years wear out of it. What coat did you go for in the end? I've got a Gabbici Gloverall Duffel Coat that looks good as new even a few years on and this year bought an APC green parka that is just the business and will see me good for a few seasons.

This. I got a black polo shirt which now looks very faded and badly mis-shapen. Shame, as their stuff looks nice when it is fresh but the quality is poor.

In my computer
Penguin were our school shirts when we were youngsters, just like ugg boots were slippers and not worn out of the house.

Penguin shirts $15 and Ugg Boots $20...how times change.

Can't go wrong with Peggs and Son, in my opinion. If I hadn't gone for the parka before Christmas I'd be seriously tempted with the Levis handcrafted parka at 40% off. Still costs a fair few bob but just have a butchers at the quality of this Parka shell- field green - Coats / Jackets

I think that's better than the Fred Perry parka although the Fred Perry comes in at half the price Fred Perry - Mountain Parka

Nice coat, had a Fred Perry for a couple of years and was superb, warm and good value. Just swapped my Barbour Liddlesdale for a new Barbour Utility wax jacket, half price in the Barbour store (£99), which is perfect.

Shame I still can't afford to shop in Peggs and Sons, some lovely stuff on that site.
