Penalty shouts tonight

Not much discussion about the 2 penalty shouts. One in the first half, handball and in the second, push on Murray.

First looked like ball to hand but the second though further away from where I sit looked a good shout.

I was sat RIGHT on the halfway line, and I can honestly say I don't need to see either again. The first wasn't, the second clearly was. In fact, I will go so far as to say that the Murray shove was the most blatant penalty I've ever seen not given.

Murray shove was the most blatant penalty I've ever seen not given, since the one on Dickinson on Saturday.

I must admit to completely losing the plot when the push on Murray wasn't given. I am getting more and more exasperated by the incompetance of referees at this level week after week.

I see Kevin Friend (The ref against Millwall who failed to stop Millwalls centre backs fouling Murray every time the ball was played to him, and seemed to think that elbowing Calderon in the face is perfectly acceptable) actually managed to red card the wrong Pompey player this evening. And failed to give Pompey what looked to be a blatant pen.

I agree but after Saturday's game there were loads of comments but tonight there's not. I thought in the context of the game the Murray one would have given us the points being late on.

Handball was tenuous, it was so close to him.

The push on Murray I thought was but none of the players went for it.

Amen to all of that, Mr P. I used to think that crap decisions against your team would be evened-out over the course of the season, but these days it's patently a crock of old shite. I'm bloody sick of piss-useless oficials, quite frankly. Can't wait for the next bunch on Saturday..

The FL really need to have a look at this. Cook on Saturday was particularly poor and Bratt tonight wasn't that much better. They're not helped by officials who appear to need "guidance" from the ref in every decision. Surely these guys must be infuriating fans up and down the country every week and yet, they are not even publically accountable (some explanation) for their actions. In an ordinary workplace, we'd be in to see the boss practically every Monday morning. Does this happen with refs??

From where I was sitting I did not expect a penalty for either incident tonight, last Saturday, however, I was sure we would be awarded a pen. It's funny how these things look so different from different angles.

There was another one I thought was a penalty where Murray was pulled to the ground, but still managed to get a weak shot on goal in.

Handball, dont think it was, the barge from behind on Murray would have been a foul anywhere else on the pitch but the penalty box.

There were numerous incidents that the officials showed their lack of understanding of the rules. The Murray (shove) penalty, another where an albion player shirt was pulled as he was running into the six yard box. An incident when their player used his hands to shove Bennett away from the ball to let it run out, in front of the linesman. Same thing happened to Navarro when their player raised his hands to shove Navarro away from the loose ball. The referees in this division are incompetant, as are the linesman. Right at the start, he gave a goal kick to us when everyone in the quiet Withdean heard their players shot (which was missing anyway) deflect of a brighton raised boot. Only Darryl Hare would have missed that.

I really agree with the general decline in standards. There was a really good view of their corner that wasn't given from where I sat in the North Stand and it really was unbelievable. The one that made me laugh as I was completely in line with it was an offside the lino gave against Holyroyd when he timed his run perfectly on the shoulder of the defender and would have been through on goal. Part of this was down to the lino being off the pace but really no excuse. I kind of blame the celebrity culture that now surrounds the officials (thinking especially of Graham Poll who was made a pundit as a reward for being sent home from the world cup for incompetence) and as I think a lot of them are coming into the game for all the wrong reasons!

Mr Gavin Ward should be named and shamed, what, a minute in? Two minutes in? Killed the game off vs Charlton. One bonus to having shite referees, is that (selfishly) it gives all of us some much needed stress release. That said, half my stress is about albion!

What about the Lino on teh south side? Balls clearly in play and he gives a throw? What was that about!

If it was a foul, it was foul anywhere on the pitch.

This.

You know what REALLY pisses me off? Fifa and Pes. The animations for some light fouls (barges and what not) are given out of the box, but in the box, nothing. Same with handballs.

Pes don't have an obiligation, but surely FIFA have this stance of Respect, and the FA and UEFA and who ever else is meant to run this sport, yet on the offical game, go and teach young'uns that it won't be a foul if its in the box! its madness!

I know its only a game but it reaches a lot of people and its stuff like this that instills footballing norms and values in to people.

for what its worth, I think the "penalty " claim by Murray was laughable. He dived straight across the centre back...

I was really dissappointed with Town last night. They looked quick on the break, but created nothing in the game...it would have been a travesty if that fab free kick had gone in.

I also thought Smithies is the best keeper I have seen at withdean for years....no wonder he is being touted as one of the next generation of English goalkeepers and fabio has had him along to the last couple of England training sessions...he is class

He looked very good and saved your lot from a certain defeat as opposed to Kuipers who I cannot remember having a shot to save other than that freekick which he didnt even see. Had it been a lttle lower on target FDM would have got nowhere near to it.
