Try using the ? for a £ or check whether the settings are English or US

...if you know the answer!

Gloster Girl types an email with a £ sign and it arrives with a ? ie £25 becomes ?25.

On the email she types it is fine it's just when it get there!

Any clues?

It's strange you should say that because Earlybird has exactly the same problem on his emails.

Its a charachter encoding issue. Basically unfixable. I could go totally techie and explain it, but I doubt you want to be bored to death

The Macintosh uses Macintosh Roman character encoding, Windows uses Windows-1252. Many webmail systems use ISO-8559 and some use UTF-8. Japanese systems use different encodings like Shift-JIS. Easten Europeans use different ones again.

These all have different ways of encoding the symbol £. Some decode it as £, some as ? and some as L

It'll happen on the Mac moreso than the others because it doesn't like working with the other sets, whereas Windows will do its best to decode them all. BeOS and Linux will decode them all.

Because you can't generally change the encoding you're sending a mail in and the person receiving it can't generally change what they're decoding it as

I can, in BeMail. However, yiz aren't using BeMail :smug:

Just go back and play with your iLife apps. Sometimes live is too short to try to covert a Mac user to using decent software :lolol:

:salute: Yes I know we've been there!

I just seem to have more problems on the pc's than I do on my macs - the macs just work!

I just ordered my Airport Express (works on a pissy too!) iTunes also works on a pc when the OS works on one i'll buy one - I aint got shares in apple (unlike Forest Gump!)
