PC Beeping

My son's PC beeps 3 times when he turns it on and it fails to boot.. this happens loads of times on the trot, then suddenly it'll work fine... i've been told it's a loose RAM.. any ideas?

When you switch it on, it should give the BIOS manufacturers name, usually one of Award, AMI, or Phoenix.
