Worthing
I have at random times of the day a programme that runs in the background which slows my PC down to a halt. Now it might well be an update like AVG or something but I`d like to find out what it is so I can schedule it if need be for when I want it to run.
So....where do I find out exactly what it is that is running ?
Many thanks.

Use task manager when it's running (ctrl alt delete to get the option). I'd guess it's a anti-virus scan checking your computer. You can switch this off.

Leg out of the bed
Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete simultaneousy to bring up a dialogue

Should show how fast your CPU is running

If it's high, like 80 - 100%, it means something is using all it's power

Check the 'Processes running' tab to see what it be

Task Manager will tell you all the things that are running. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and then it's one of the options. Process Explorer used to be a better version but that's no longer supported.

there should be an AVG icon on the bottom task bar to the right near the clock. If you double click it you will get options and can disable (or reduce the scans to once a week)
