PAY ON THE GATE ON THE DAY - could it be introduced at Withdean ?

Was quite surprised I could get two tickets for tonight's game by phoning up ticket office late yesterday and paying by credit card. Will pick them up on the gate. Quite a smooth operation.

Don't believe a pay on the gate would work though

Does Withdean have cycle parking like Madejski?

We wont get the extra seats. We have planning permission for them but the club pulled out of the park & ride planning.
No. The Council indicated that they could not guarantee to get the necessary Traffic Regulation Order for the closure of part of Carden Avenue approved by the Environment Committee.

The Council then promised to help find an alternative site, but, so far, they've come up with ... nothing.

can someone please remind me why we are not allowed to pay on the gate at present?
The specific reason for all tickets being sold in advance is to support the Travel Plan. Having tickets on sale at the gate would mean that some people would be unable to use the park & ride services and they would be more likely to drive to Withdean.

The same principle will apply when we are at Falmer. No ticket sales on the gate, although tickets will be available on the day (for purchase at Club outlets and Railway ticket offices).

Doubt it, I believe it's the law that BHA is obliged to jump through almost as many hoops as you'd find at a Reading v QPR game.

What they need to do is scrap the ticket lottery system and just have allercations sold on the net, at the office, by postal aplication and over the phone. All the games would sell out this way.

It's clear the lottery system isn't working!

To be perfectly honest I just don't think there's enough spare tickets each game to make it worth while. If there are only, say, 300 tickets available for a certain game would you really bother going all the way to the ground for the game if you weren't absolutely sure you would get in?

Every other ground that has pay on the day knows 100% that there will always be more tickets than people that want them. Otherwise it would be all-ticket in the first place.

I managed to get a ticket from the shop yesterday - the game was not sold out to my surprise - and these were not returns either.

Blimey, are people really this dis-organised these days.

If you want to buy a ticket for the test match held at the Oval (usually late August, early September) you HAVE to apply (and PAY) the preceding November............ a minimum of 9 months in advance of the event.

Imagine the uproar if we did this.

Pay on the gate could only work if we had excess capacity and space to accommodate andpolice a long queue effectively. Look at the hassle it took getting the play-off tickets sold.............

No.

But the requirement to have a sustainable Travel Plan is a feature of ALL major planning applications for new stadiums made since the mid 1990s.

The original Withdean planning application fell within this category, because the site had never previously been used as a "regulated" stadium under the Safety of Sports Grounds legislation.

The specific requirements will vary from stadium to stadium. Withdean is in a residential area. Falmer is in an AONB.

Without these rules being agreed, it is simply the case that planning permission would not be obtained.

These days, there's a general requirement for ALL major new developments, including shopping centres and employment centres, to have sustainable Travel Plans.
