Sorry, absolutely NO time for the likes of Paul Scholes at all, or an England player who has the temerity to RETIRE from international football.

How dare they!, its a great honour and privelege to be chosen to play for your country, and not something to be tossed aside when the player feels like it.

Once Scholes, (or Jamie Carragher for that matter), had 'retired', Cappello should never have gone crawling back to them.

My views:

1. Rightly or wrongly, Scholes made a commitment to Man Utd and to his family by retiring from the England team. To expect him to break that commitment at 24 hours notice is a bit silly.

2. Given that it IS a big deal if Cappello had REALLY wanted Scholes he should have called him personally.

3. This story suggests he thought Scholes was a better option than some of the players he took - Joe Cole, Carrick in particular can't feel too good about this story.

4. I don't think Scholes would have made any difference to what was a pitiful tournament.
