And this is why I do not show any interest any longer in the brand that is "Engerland!"
It really is not rocket science, forgot the euro championships, we have 4 years to develop the neccesary coaching and focus on skill and passing rather than using the English heart, bull dog spirit (which worked pre-1967) and passion to win games!
For me Joe Hart should be no.1 with 3 years or so to develop and build his confidence! Germany have a lot of promise and I would suggest may be winners in the euro's, but this has not happened over night!
Robinson was once catlike, but never really commanded a box positionally. It's sad to read he's frustrated that playing for Blackburn doesn't make him England's guaranteed best and number one.
Saying that, of course there's not much option with other keepers and everyone has to hope either Shay Given loses a hand in a dogfight or Hart moves on quickly to keep in practice and prove he's the number one people hope for.
What I am confused about is how the squad are selected, I assumed someone at the FA phoned ahead and said "congratulations you are in the England squad", then a player like Robinson could do a press conference and retire.
"Only now have I been able to make this decision as previously I haven't been in contention for selection,"
Well you could have still said before the World Cup, "I haven't been selected therefore I will announce my retirement" He didn't need to be selected to announce his retirement. Smacks to me of an opportunity to embarrass Capello and the FA.
well, yes, but they'll do it for themselves - have done with this squad. Rodwell is a ludicrous oversight, Agbonlahor better than the three nutsacks upfront. Capello doesn't have the momentum to usher in an era of youthful tailchasing, he's lost any fire he glinted and will be an even grumpier old bag if he truly wants to pretend he has the energy to try and perfect lesser players when he previously couldn't even summon the patience for Darren Bent.
I'm disappointed. I've said for atleast a year that Robinson is the best English goalkeeper. This is a real shame, but it saves him being the back up to Joe Hart for a few years. Scott Loach, someone mentioned, will only be good enough if he makes the step up to the Premier League.
Crapello is showing his lack of knowledge about English football, and managing like a true Italian - trying to win public opinion by throwing in old names.
