Paul Ince to take over at MK Dons?

MK Dons are due to name their new boss tomorrow, but it looks like Micky Adams might miss out.

MK DONS were last night thrashing out compensation with League Two
rivals Macclesfield to land Paul Ince as their new manager – with Ray Mathias set to be his number two.
Ince, 39, has agreed the move south to become Martin Allen's successor and last night Dons officials were finalising a compensation deal in the region of £50,000 for the remainder of his Moss Rose contract.

The former Manchester United midfielder wants to bring his experienced Macclesfield assistant Mathias – who has managed Wigan, Tranmere and Chester – with him to the Stadium:MK.

Ince also wants to appoint his former England team-mate Les Ferdinand as a specialist striker coach to work with the Dons' forwards.

Milton Keynes are remaining tight-lipped about Ince until the deal is completed but yesterday (Wednesday) they were still hopeful he would be unveiled at Denbigh North before the weekend on a two-year deal.

Ince jumped ahead of long-time favourite Micky Adams earlier this week as the frontrunner for the hot-seat, which has been vacant since ex-Dons' boss Allen quit for Leicester City a month ago.

A source close to Pete Winkelman explained why the Dons' chairman has opted for Ince, who has been in management just nine months, instead of more experienced candidates like Adams.

He said: "The chairman feels Ince has got the ambition, burning passion and hunger to make a name for himself in management and he believes he can get the best out of the players to get us promoted.

"Micky Adams was a strong candidate but I think the chairman wanted a more up-and-coming boss in the Aidy Boothroyd mould, desperate to prove himself as a manager."

Ince, who saved Macclesfield from relegation despite them being 14 points adrift at the bottom when he joined last October, is contracted at Macc until December.

Macclesfield were unavailable for comment when the Citizen contacted them yesterday (Wednesday).

The Silkmen have so far kept silent about the Dons' approach for Ince and they dismissed the move as speculation when the Citizen contacted them on Monday.

Excellent decision- the inexperienced rookie manager with no real understanding of lower league football vs well known lower division promotion specialist. Choose the expensive option most likely to fail! Wankelman by name.....

Still it would be interesting if Ince and MA would have dealt any differently with Leon Knight's issues!

Neither here nor there
If Micky Adams is really in the market for lower league football I'd rather he was being linked with us than MK Bleeding Dons!

Hmmm. Alternatively, Paul Ince is exactly what Adams WAS in the 1990s. Hungry for success but a bit wet behind the ears.

I suspect that the difference would be that Ince would rely on his contacts in the Premiership whereas Adams tended to recruit players he knew would do the job because he'd employed them to do so in the past.

I too would take Ince over Adams if I was the MK Dons board. Sad to say, they've got this one right. :(

Failure at Leicester and Coventry is probably the reason they would prefer an up and coming manager, sadly for MA

Ince has resigned as Macclesfield manager so it looks like a done deal. I wish Ince and Franchise FC all the worst in the coming season.

I've met him, I hate him, and I hope he sinks with the ship.

Ince that is, not Sir Micky :D:D:D

So out of interest, is Ince really the twat that West Ham fans would have us believe?

Why do you hate him? Genuinely interested.
