Parkinson: We won't be offering Martin Brittain a deal

Martin Brittain

Friend tells me that local Hull radio have reported they are not following up any interest. Let's hope he's on his way to France to join up with the rest of the squad. Although there is a rumour up in Hull he's going for a trial with Swansea.

Hull City manager Phil Parkinson will decide on the futures of on-trial duo Martin Brittain and Lloyd Dyer in the next 48 hours.

The pair each played 45 minutes of the Tigers warm-up games at Winterton and North Ferriby and could again feature at Doncaster tonight.

Right-winger Brittain, formerly of Newcastle, has also been the subject of interest from Brighton having spent a week with the League One side earlier this month.

With former West Brom midfielder Dyer also waiting on a decision from Parkinson, the City boss is keen to settle the situation this week.

But he would not be drawn on whether contracts have been offered to either player.

"We're still in discussions with both players at present," Parkinson told the Mail.

"Lloyd may well feature at some stage tonight and I'll be talking to Martin this week also."

Brighton manager Mark McGhee is known to be an admirer of Brittain, after the 21-year-old played in their pre-season game with Worthing a fortnight ago.

Brittain has since impressed for the Tigers with his direct approach on the right wing but Parkinson remains uncertain how he would fit into his squad.

"Martin's at the stage of his career where he needs to go and play games and if we bring him here, we've got to be looking to play him," he explained.

"There are certain players in his way at this club in his position with Ryan France and Craig Fagan both there.

"We'll be chatting with his agent and having a think about it this week."

City travel to Doncaster for their third pre-season fixture against their South Yorkshire rivals.

Parkinson admitted he will shelve his previous plan of playing two sides of 11 for 45 minutes in favour of building his players' fitness.

He said: "Players will play more than just 45 minutes tonight, we've got to stretch them more and more. Some players will get a lot more under their belts tonight.

"I'm learning a lot about my players in pre-season. The first two games have been very pleasing because the attitudes shown have been first-class.

"Going to Doncaster is going to be a big step-up in terms of quality.

"It's a progression we've got to handle quite quickly because it's not too far from running out at West Brom on August 5 for us now."

Ryan France, who is yet to play a part in pre-season due to a thigh strain, could play some role but winger Stuart Elliott is unlikely to be risked.

"Stuart Elliott has got a bit of a stiff back but it's nothing major, just one of those pre-season niggles that you would expect," Parkinson added.

"We'll assess everyone ahead of the game but there'll be no chances taken on anyone at this stage.

"Ryan France had a very slight thigh strain but he trained yesterday but there's no need to risk anyone during pre-season."

Zamora wasn't technically a cast off...we paid a fee for him

But the point i was making is the depressing bit is the waiting for other teams to make their decisions, i know it's the way it has to be but just pisses me off sometimes

We already have 3 left sided midfielders, so why we would need a 4th I don't really know. He would be a good player though.

We are the poor relations. We have to put up with the cast-offs and hand me downs of the others. Get used to it, it will not change until we have Falmer or it is at least being built.

Brittain didn't play for Hull in the game against Doncaster, Dyer got a half.

Lets hope they've made their minds up and decided no, we need a right winger and have found one we are interested in. Just hope he's interested in us.

Well, this is a lucky break for us if Hull don't want him. There is no substitute for a bit of gas on the right flank, and I don't know if Reid or OGH can provide that, even though they give us experience. Let's hope though that his wage demands are not excessive given his relative inexperience and injury record.

Lets hope he wants to come here.

I'm not so sure he is that keen, but hopefully DK and MM will be able to convince him that coming here is the right move for him

The City manager said that he... wouldn't be offering fellow triallist Martin Brittain a deal.

"We won't be offering Martin Brittain a deal. I just felt that Martin has been a squad player at Newcastle and it wouldn't progress his career to be a squad player at Hull City.

"We have got Ryan France, Craig Fagan and Dean Marney who can all play on the right side of midfield, so we have quite a lot of options in that position."
