The 42-year-old said that he had decided to leave football having completely made a fool of himself by walking out on what many consider to be the best team in Britain at present.
I thought this was very funny and clever, until I read the bit that described Reading as "what many consider to be the best team in Britain at present".
If you go too far beyond the realms of possibility, a parody breaks down.
Reading are understood to have started legal proceedings to stop Alan Pardew taking over at West Ham.
Hammers caretaker boss Trevor Brooking expects the former Royals chief to be in place by the weekend, after he resigned from his post at the Madejski Stadium.
But Reading have begun moves to prevent him becoming the new Hammers boss and their lawyers were in the High Court on Wednesday morning, trying to get an injunction to stop him taking over at Upton Park.
"We understand Reading have issued proceedings against Alan Pardew for breach of contract," a West Ham spokesman told The Standard. "West Ham United are not party to the proceedings so are unable to comment further."
Pardew's contract at Reading is understood to contain a clause stating he can join a Premiership side for £250,000 in compensation, but it is also believed to specify that he cannot join a "rival club".
Chairman John Madejski has already said he would "be darned" if Pardew was to join one of their rivals.
