Dowie expects departures

Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie says he will have to let some players leave as he looks to strengthen his squad before the 31 August transfer deadline.
Dowie said: "We have been linked with a lot of players. Are we looking for players? Yes we are.

"I am very confident we will get bodies in. We would like to get at least three or four. We are aware of that.

"There will be some people who leave the club because they will not be able to play, I am sure of it."

The Eagles manager has already brought in eight new faces and also has Ecuadorian forward Angel Fernandez on trial at Selhurst Park.

But Dowie insists he still needs reinforcements after a 3-1 defeat at home to an Everton side reduced to 10 men on Saturday.

He added: "I have made the point to the lads that we knew what we had last year and we were a very tight unit. That is where we were.

"I am very close to the players but it is a more difficult environment now. As long as we keep bringing players in we will not have the same players in the team.

"Some will want to go and play football. That is always a disappointing thing but if that does happen they will leave knowing I have done the best for them and we will part as friends.

"There has been no acrimony about any of my decisions because they are mine to make and I make them."

You wish - why would the likes of Freedman, Aki or Popovic want to sign for a side hurtling towards League 1, or whatever it is now called?

Stick to Simon 'the crab' Rodger.

Bournemouth/Reading
Reckon Darren Powell is almost definitely going to Reading then. We agreed a fee with them last year and he failed a medical. Now he's up and running he should be on his way. Another ex-Brentford/Palace to the list!

Charlton numpties like pikey pr*tt don't count.

He's been going for 5 minutes and takes a big drum to the game. He got his season ticket for free and has never been to Millwall or Palace. Most of the time he's up you lot anyway.

Happy 15th birthday for the other day pr*tty.
